well..bad title..
but my q is, is it true that in the boston area...you're only viewed as an intellectual if you go to harvard or mit...and even bu and bc are considered a joke...

my cousin from boston says that people in boston are snobby and only respect you if you go to harvard....

If anything, I would suspect the opposite effect--people NOT respecting you because they probably think you are pretentious and think you are better than the students at the 50 other great colleges in the area.

Totally untrue. Boston is probably the #1 city in the world where people are the most ho-hum about Harvard. In Tokyo, they care. In Boston, it's no big deal.

Hanna's answer makes sense. When it's all around you it doesn't seem as big of a deal. Except to wide-eyed high schoolers + their parents, of course. lol.

Boston's probably one of the best college cities in the nation.. with all those unis around, there's always gotta be something fun going on!

i absolutely love boston. it's my fav city! i really wanna go to college there, and incidentally, bu and northeastern are some of the colleges that i'm planning to apply to, besides amherst, tufts, bc, clark, and HARVARD, just to try my luck.

Nah, Boston is full of (good) colleges and everyone has quite neutral perspectives on all of them, although Harvard and MIT tend to be more respected.
