Boston pros/cons?

hey i dont live in boston so can u clue me in? How do you like it? How is the environment? What type of person would most like living there? etc…

The campus is something you really need to see for yourself, it's an immediate dealbreaker for some, and others don't mind at all, it's personal choice

I read about Boston being a great city and whatever but its basically like Long Island.

Boston itself is great. there's a lot of things to do, and because there are so many colleges around there, there are a LOT of students and therefore student-oriented things to do

the weather is REALLY COLD, don't underestimate that factor

Boston is an absolutely amazing city with culture and diversity galore. I think that it has a very quaint feel which some people don't like. Also, the city has great great great food (i'm a food fan if you haven't noticed lol) and yeah.

THe bad things are:
1) that there is so much to do that you are overwhelmed
2) liberal and may concern many conservatives (but i'm liberal so i love it!)
3) there are no bad things about the city!

Ok, have fun witht hat one lol.

If you search this forum, you'll see other threads that go through life in Boston in greater detail.
I live like a half-hour drive from boston. The christian science center and it's 670 feet long refelcting pool is just beauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuutiful. It's really relaxing. Boston has very bad drivers and red sox fans (I'm a yankee fan). Besides that everything is pretty sweet.

Don't overlook the fact that the campus might be a deal*maker* for some. Of all the schools I visited, of which there was a pretty good mix of urban, suburban, and rural, BU had my favorite campus for its mix of city and academic life.

Its a city that is walkable and no where near as large as some cities so its a good place for someone new to an urban setting. Except for the cold (so learn to snowboard, skate, or ski) I think its a perfect college city. Boston Common (huge park with pond in the center of it all) is extraordinary and the areas between the Commons and BU are full of beautiful tree lined streets with gorgeous brownstones, and you'll also find these around the Bay St Rd and South campus sections of BU, there's the Newberry St area, upscale, outdoor cafes, shopping, the Harbor area, Quincy Market and all around BU lots of college oriented stores and music venues both small and large. (new Aganis Arena is on campus) .

Its friendlier than most East Coast cities and comparatively safe. The campus is interwoven into the outskirts of the city so you are in Boston but not in the center of it and BU is along the river. There are plenty of green areas to sit and chill but if you are looking for a walled in campus with tons of grassy knolls thats not BU. How much grass does one need anyway so long as there's enough to sit on or play ball/frisbee? Around the new BU Student Village and Rec Center there are cobblestones type coutyard enclaves with cafes and areas to hang out. BU's campus includes all the restaurants and stores and other things that rub up against it and thats part of the BU campus experience. Thats not for everybody. A negative with Boston is that its not as diverse as some East Coast cities although the international population is good.

When can you visit to see? Have you searched for Boston pix on the internet?Where are you now?

Boston is a terrific city. The only thing wrong with it, is that it is very expensive. And, IMHO...it is NOT like Long Island.

boston is amazing:D i lived 25-45 mins away my whole life. lots of museums, restaurants, clubs, whatever you're interested in. it's an awesome place.

I assume you are planning to go to school here? I am in my sophomore year at BU and here are some of the pros/cons:

Pros:
1) Boston is a thriving college town with many museums, theaters, stores, restaurants, clubs, and more!

2) The community, especially at BU, is pretty diverse - you'll meet people from all over.

Cons:
1) The subway, aka the "T", is very inconvenient. The service sucks. To top it off, they are raising fares.

2) Boston winters can be very cold.

3) Everything is closed by 2 am. As much as there is to do in Boston, sometimes it can be difficult to find something to do at night.

Overall, it is definitely busier and better than the suburban area I am from.
