What's the best way to travel from Boston to the Cornell campus using public transportation? Would be open to train, airplane, bus, taxi and in combination.

Greyhound Home

I've found them the cheapest for almost everything.
(But my travel has never involved Boston)

my guess would be bus as well. However if you are asking about school breaks, I'm sure you will be able to find someone to carpool with.

Craigslist carpool share.

On breaks, the Class Councils charter a bus that goes straight to Boston and drops off in Newton, and maybe in the city as well. However, tonssss of people drive back and forth (I do, and my car is rarely full!) so if you look on the Carpool facebook application or other ride shares, it shouldn't be difficult.

Outside of breaks, you can bus from Syracuse to Boston, or Ithaca to NYC to Boston. But usually its possible to find rides.

the greyhound bus ride took me about 8-9 hrs. which is a pretty big pain, but it got me there.

another thing that's possible is to drive to albany (with a parent or whoever) which is about 3 hrs and then take the bus from there which is about 3.5-4 hrs. if timed right....but obviously that isn't entirely public.

one thing that i might do next year is take the bus from cornell's campus in ithaca to the nyc medical school campus and then stay with friend for a night and then go back to boston by bus...this definetaly isn't quicker but it wouldn't be as much of a pain in the ass as sitting on a bus going through upstate ny for 8 hrs....and maybe cheaper too.

I've also heard that it's really easy to find a ride over holidays/ breaks.

This is certainly possible, but the Boston <--> Albany bus connections are really quite good. It is the Albany <---> Ithaca that is the problem.

Going through New York City isn't the worst of ideas, although that might take you nine hours whereas Greyhound through Albany could only be eight. By car, Boston to Ithaca takes around six.

craigslist carpool share? seriously?

Craigslist may not be super legit, but the Carpool facebook app is...
