T_1223, my daughter got into this program too, she is kind of disappointed, so after virtual session, you daughter changed her opinion about CGS program??
she also got $36,000.00 scholarship from Case Western Reserve!
My son is going to the admitted students day for CGS students next Friday. Iâve read quite a bit about it online, and it seems like a decent program to me, for the right kids. I think the biggest drawback (besides January start) is that you donât get to pick your classes to meet the HUB requirements. Instead you follow a pre-planned curriculum that focuses on great civilizations-type classes.
My son really enjoys that type of class and didnât have a strong opinion on how he wanted to meet the HUB requirements, but I can imagine that there would be other kids would really not like that. In addition to the core requirements that everyone in the program takes, students take one class in their major during spring freshman year semester, and then, for my sons program, it looks like two classes in his major each semester of sophomore year. So, it looks like for him for the first 2 years it would be the 10 CGS courses +5 classes in his major.
I do have some questions about the logistics, like for the summer semester are they paying full tuition but only getting three classes instead of four? And do the CGS classes really meet all the hub requirements, or will there be some others that he needs to meet his junior and senior year?
I donât have answer for that,(good questions) but I am sure we can join the admitted students session and ask about it !!
Are there any stats for how many were put on the waitlist this year? And how many they took off the waitlist last year?
Last year BU was overenrolled by about 400 students. Few if any were accepted off the waitlist.
Is it true that the overall acceptance rate for the Class of 2027 at BU was 11% ?
Some places are saying 10 percent. Wild.
Right? Canât believe.
the bottom line is that we need to do something to limit the number of applications kids are doing. many of these are to schools the kids have zero intention of going to.
And colleges have no choice but to practice yield protection in an attempt to weed out such students. It is not always accurate of course.
Agreed about limiting the amount of applications. Too many qualified students.
Did anyone get financial aid package yet? Iâm asking for my daughterâs BF who got accepted but isnât able to access fin. Aid portal.
Does BU send out accepted student packages or any welcome merch by regular mail?
Ours was available with acceptance, if she clicks to view decision, financial aid decision was available on the right side of the screen as well as in the header under fin aid.
Against my better judgement I looked at the BU subreddit. The 2023-2024 tuition has been announced and there is a substantial increase. A student is complaining that tuition at University of Toronto is only about US$9000/year and wondering why BU cannot provide an education for that amount instead of the $$64,000 they will be charging. Despite several posters explaining that UToronto is public, he is unable to understand the difference. He also doesnât understand that at UToronto freshman classes may have over 600 students.
I believe BU was the only university my D22 did not receive an actual letter, package, or swag in the mail from. Just the electronic notification on the portal. Everybody else sent at least a letter in a large envelope.
Do you really need the swag after getting in at 10.7% to a world-class institution?
My daughter received a personalized letter in an 8x11 folder from the academic department where she was accepted (College of Art). No t-shirt but a cool sticker, which is her love language!
Thatâs nice - I wonder if that was particular to the department? I guess it is always possible things got lost in our horrible mail - but I recall others saying they didnât receive anything and in the previous year as well. It was more about a letter than swag anyway - only a few schools sent swag - but well over 10 acceptances and she only didnât receive a hard copy acceptance letter from one and that was BU.
Was BU really 10.7% this year? I canât find any articles about BU this year - all I can find is that 80,455 applied overall.
