Given what you know about Boston University, what do you hope to accomplish as an undergraduate here? Please respond in an essay of no more than 500 words.

-ok this is the most uncreative essay prompt ever, so i think it’s pretty hard
should i turn this essay into a creative story that ties in what i hope to accomplish in the university or should i just blandly tell them fact by fact of what i want to do?

if u already applied, how did u write ur essay?

I’m also curious. This is a very hard question to answer. Are they just asking for what we hope to accomplish academically, or as a whole in the city of Boston?

you guys…this question isn’t too bad. it’s completely open ended…it can mean what you hope to accomplish personally, in the city, at the school, in your family life…anything you want. what do you want to do as a college student? you really can’t think of anything?

I wouldn’t even stress over it that much, besides the main common app essays which I worked for ever on I wrote each supplement for a school in about an hour, I think last years was describe yourself in three words.

I’m having lots of trouble, too. I was just going to open a new thread to ask about it, but decided to look through the older one’s first.
I want to get my bachelor’s degree, obviously. I want to learn a lot. I want to have fun. I want to do research. I want to experience Boston. But to write a whole essay about it? I don’t know how to start.

do you think it’s okay if i refer to the short essay (how i became interested in BU and what steps i have taken to learn about it) in essay 1?

and what do you think is the minimum? it just says “no more than 500 words”, but is it okay if i write like 250 words, as long as i make my point?

okay, i basically finished my first draft of the essay now. just in case you’re still having trouble, here’s a short summary of what i wrote for inspiration

I pretty much just wrote what my plans are academically (independent major or double major, some research, and also working on my french skills), which ECs i plan on taking part of (theater, ballet and a few clubs i’m interested in) and why i don’t plan on studying abroad. 455 words.

There are ways to make this interesting, if you try. I wrote about an experience I had during my campus visit and how being at BU I hope I can take what I experienced, learn, and do x, y and z.

I’m sure they want this one to be a bit more straight forward anyway. Don’t stress about making it overly creative.

I discussed things that my friends had told me about (without mentioning them specifically) and I really didn’t give like a list of things. I tried to make it as cohesive as possible.

I felt like BU could have done so much more with a supplement essay question. Like almost everyone is ambitious and wants diversity. EVERYONE will put that! And that’s going to grate on the AC’s nerves.
