How is Boston University's Journalism program? I'm at Syracuse, and I'm not happy here, so I am considering transferring. I know it won't be as great as Syracuse, but for an undergraduate program how does it stand?

Also, how decent is Emerson's as well? Right now, Northwestern is my top choice for transferring, but I'm trying to locate other cities that are close or in a city that have decent journalism programs.

Add American University to the list as well. How is their program as well?

Unless you get into NU, it would probably be in your best interest to not spend so much on a private college, especially for undergrad. I have a friend who was at 'Cuse for journalism and didn't like it. He's at Maryland now, where he's much happier and much happier in the wallet.

Just curious because syracuse newhouse is my top choice, what don't you like?

The academics are fine at Syracuse, it's just the whole social interaction that bugs me. People are kinda jerks here, campus is very segregated, stuff like that. I know plenty of people here who love it though, so don't let what I say defer you from SU. It is a great school for communications, I just feel like I don't fit in.

Money isn't really a concern right now. I have been looking at U of M and I am considering it. Right now Northwestern is my top choice, but I'm looking at BU not only cause I think I would like the city but because my brother goes to Northeastern, and I think it would be nice to be close to him.

ej: You sound a little like my D who is also a freshman at Newhouse....she said the kids in her com107 class were "pompous idiots"...her words not mine....anyway, not sure what classes you are enrolled in now, but hopefully that will help...

I do agree that Syracuse is kinda segregated...not sure if you mean because the dorms are so spread out or another reason?? Sorry you are not happy....but make sure that you are not thinking about transferring to another school where these problems also exist....and it's not just a freshman adjustment type issue.....

I mean segregated as there is little to no interaction among different races. I just feel like this isn't the place for me, and if it was, I don't believe I would even be considering transferring. I wouldn't say people here are generally bad people, I just don't seem to get along with them.

I think I am considering NU, BU, and American as ones to apply. I would like to major in Journalism but also pursue a second major in something that deals with Environmental Issues or social issues. How much weight is put on ACEJMC accreditation? I notice that BU, along with Emerson, is not accredited. I also notice that University of Wisconsin-Madison and Quinnipiac are also not accredited, and I have heard good things about both those schools.

CNN's Erica Hill She graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Journalism from Boston University. Erica Hill - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That's great and all, but I think I'm going to go into print. I've been looking at BU's faculty, and I see most of them have been a journalist of some kind (there were some pulitzer prize winners too). That's good right?

You should post on the BU page...have you visited the campus? Some feel that it doesn't have much of a campus feel. I visited a few years ago with my son and we had that feeling. Of course, it definitely is cool to be in the city and he didn't really have a problem with it but some people do.

Nah, I haven't visited the campus yet. I could probably do that after this semester though. Transfers are nonbinding so I can always go see it before I make a decision.
