Similarly, I’m deciding between Syracuse, RIT, and Emerson for basically the same program. I’m leaning toward Cuse because of its reputation. Your decision could be tougher because BU’s comm program is pretty reputable, but not nearly as much as Newhouse. But then there’s Boston as a city with all those opportunities for amazing photos. I definitely see where you’re stuck. All three are great schools and I’ve never heard anything about a significant BC photo program - don’t choose it just because it was a reach if photojournalism is what you really want to do.

Have you visited any of those campuses? If you have not, do it! I think that one of the most important deciding factor of choosing the right university is actually visiting to see if it is the right place for you. If BU has the right program for you to be a photo journalist, then I’d recommend BU.

Boston College is very prestigous…and while I know prestige isn’t EVERYTHING, in this economy you should opt for a place that has connections. I think both Syr and BU are great but…its Boston College!

@inconspicuous. EXACTLYY! thats where my mindset is right now. i kind of wish I hadnt been accepted to Boston College because that would make this decision SO much easier.

@happynari. i’m visiting all three colleges next week :]

I know syracuse is the best choice for my major but im so confused :[

are you kidding?? BC hands down…they have a really good program and employers would take grads with a top brand…besides (although this might just be unlikely due to your username) if you decided that there is something better than photography, you will have an excellent faculty at your disposal in BC…there are business, engineering, etc, etc…you just can’t go wrong with BC…unless you can’t stand the religion thingy

for the OP’s career and major, it’s all about connections, internships and experience…this is not about prestige of school, or, frankly, about “pure” textbook academics…

but, for what it’s worth, Newhouse is up there with the best of them…

For photography, Newhouse hands down beats BC.

I applied to BC and got waitlisted. I put my name on it and would go over Syracuse, but ONLY because my major will be business-related (and Carroll is top-notch).

For photography, Newhouse beats both BC and BU. Look at the school, not the university as a whole.

Rodney, prestige = connections. Why do you think people go to top schools in the first place?Boston College is more prestigous, and it’s in a major city! Syracuse is smack dab in the middle of the ghetto, so any sort of activities you would have would need to be dealt with outside of the surrounding campus area. BC is located in the best college town in the world…you’ll be hanging out with the most influential people of any industry…not just communications. Your clearly focused on your career, but if you change your mind…which ussually happens in college, you’ll have other award winning programs at your disposal. You may gain some connections in the industry at Newhouse, but at BC your more likely to shine bc it’s not as focused, and you’ll be surrounded with well-connected people who may commission you one day to work with them…

inconspicuous.s.n is only exhibiting sour grapes for having to wait so long for an admissions decision. I wouldn’t take what he/she/it says into consideration. Prestige isn’t everything and Syracuse can offer just as many opportunities as any other school can no matter what the rankings (Which most people here are basing everything from)

House of London, I’m so honored that you would take few minutes of your life to cyber stalk my posts and defend your position! Nonetheless, you made some valid points, and I’d take them into consideration photography
Rodney, I didn’t mean that to soud rude. Just trying to sell mmy point, but its really up to him. And upon further reflection, I somewhat agree. Actually, I posted right after my last post, taking a different position but whatever…
