Are these schools looked down upon at MIT?

I would imagine its like at any university. There will be some that think they are all that for going to MIT and that any other university isn’t worth crap, but I would guess the vast majority recognize that while MIT might be considered higher caliber to some extent, those other universities most certainly merit respect.

? These colleges don’t really pop up in conversation much. I suppose most people think MIT’s of a higher caliber, but I don’t get the sense of “looking down on” other schools. I myself am taking a class at BU this summer :D

This.

MIT students just don’t sit around assessing the relative merits of the various schools in the area. They have better things to do. People mock Harvard in friendly fashion, and occasionally MIT and Caltech poke at each other, but given the flow between all of those schools from undergrad to grad school, and the fact that many people have friends there, it’s really people being silly and snarky rather than people seriously caring.

Besides, all of those schools that you named are excellent schools (though good at different things). I’m going to one (Northeastern) for my MS.

That’s a bad outlook to have on the world. I think you’ll find that people at MIT are unnaturally chill towards these perceived social strata. You won’t be judged based on where you’re from, but rather who are you.

Besides, none of that really matters when everyone is over at MIT to party, now is it? ;)
