Boston University RD 2023

@cp2019 You definitely have a shot

@cp2019 BU will most likely consider the pros in your whole application, with a lower than their average SAT being only one piece of the puzzle. If they feel that the rest of your application is strong, the outlier of a not-great SAT score probably wouldn’t be the deciding factor. Looking at the acceptances at my D’s school on Naviance, for example, shows that in recent history the average SAT score of those accepted has been 1387. However the range of the scores was pretty wide, starting at 1160 and up to 1550, so it seems that there have been those with lower scores who have gotten in based on the strength of other factors in their application. Best of luck!

I emailed my admissions counselor explaining my bad grade on my mid year report and she emailed me back. Who is your counselor @cp2019

@NJMAN2500 I forgot his name but his last name is Newton?

@cp2019 @NJMAN2500 Maybe Derrick Newton? You can link to a list of admission reps by region here: https://www.bu.edu/admissions/visit-us/staff/ When my D reached out to her rep to update her application, he emailed back the same day. Perhaps your rep didn’t receive your note?

that’s interesting! i’ve actually emailed my rep MULTIPLE times and she never got back to me (not even to one email)… is that weird?

^^ also my rep’s name is Emily Lake I think

@artdreamer @NJMAN2500 yes it was him! idk if he read it and didn’t responds bc there wasn’t rlly anything to respond to but idk if I should try to send it out again or just let it be

@am2727 Im not sure if thats weird bc mine didn’t reply to me. I’m wondering if the continued interest emails are more read and not respond to or if you are supposed to get a response from them?

my rep has not answered either

@cp2019 Maybe you can email him once more before this Saturday. But i don’t think you should continuously email him. Just my opinion

Maybe it depends on the particular rep’s style, whether they are more or less responsive. My D’s rep is Jonathan Aleshire. She emailed him to add something to her resume, a new award she had recently received, and he responded with a thank you for the update and a congratulations. It’s probably a personality thing, whether or not they take the time to respond if it’s not necessary, but it does help to know that they have received the email, which is why we appreciated that he circled back.

yeah! the only reason that i wish my rep answered is that I’m scared the email was never successfully sent in the first place or that my rep never saw it! i hope that’s not the case!

@NJMAN2500 ur 100p right thanks so much! should I just copy and paste my email again?

I actually emailed BU a email of continued interest a few weeks ago and they sent me a response saying they received it and would add it to my application

@chloejrdn ugh lucky! i sent one too but never received an email back! i’m kinda getting worried now! I hope i didn’t email the wrong rep

does being south asian and parents of immigrants make a difference in applications?

@NJMAN2500 Being South Asian is not a hook. Being a child of immigrants is not a hook. If you are first generation college that will help.

Got it, I am first generation, but was just wondering. Thank you

should I email admissions@bu.edu or my rep bc now im getting worried that the email was ignored

or ill just email him again with the same thing and hope he reads it
