Boston University RD 2023

@gherbss @ashxnl @charlottemd I was waitlisted from Northeastern and it’s making me really scared for BU (which is my dream school). BU typically only admits 4 people from my school per year, which is even worse. hoping that BU gives us a chance! fingers crossed!!

@ashxnl @am2727 @charlottemd @gherbss me too :(rejected from Northeastern but in my case I was deferred from BU ED1 and I’m really hoping I get in this time! It’s my top school. Also same with the SAT, I feel like my SAT was pretty average and maybe a tiny bit below it but the rest of my application hopefully makes up for it

Northeastern was extremely picky this year though. A ton of people who were rejected or waitlisted had incredible stats and I think should’ve gotten in but I guess too many applicants this year

I was rejected from NEU too, but NEU =/= BU! also, BU took an additional essay, which will hopefully boost our applications:) I believe in y’all !!!

Also rejected from NEU today, praying I get into BU or BC but everything is so much more competitive even since last year that I have no idea what my chances are.

Last year, presidential and trustee scholarships found out on what would be this Friday, post your results if your fortunate enough to get them

Does school matters when it comes to the admitted chance?

Typically what scores and gpa does a person need to get into BU?? I’ve looked it up but it seems people on here know more.

Without a hook, you want at least a 33 ACT or an SAT score that starts with the number 15. It’s tough to give a GPA number since there are wide variations between high schools - but you want to be in the top 10% of your class (top 5% would be better) taking mostly honors 9th and 10th and AP’s 11th and 12th. One last thing, BU had a 22% acceptance rate last year, and this year, it may well be in the teens. It’s not a safety school for anyone, no matter how high your stats.

@art651

Many of those rejected or waitlisted Northeastern applicants have posted that BU or another college was their preferred choice anyway. Northeastern is looking to accept students who want to attend. Their lack of interest may have come across in their application.

is there a chance decisions will come out before the 23rd or do u think it will definitely be then?

@TomSrOfBoston I don’t really see how Northeastern could know that seeing as they didn’t have any supplemental essays. All you had to do was fill out the common app.

@CelestialDreams Northeastern, and BU, consider “demonstrated interest”. If you have top stats and show no interest you will likely be denied or waitlisted. Showing interest is an official visit to campus, participating in admissions webinars, not deleting emails etc.

What about if your stats are on the lower end but you have shown lots of demonstrated interest? BU has been my top school for years and since than I have opened and saved every email and been on the webinars and I have requested information a lot ?

@Wall1111 In addition to acceptance rates colleges are concerned about yield rates. No college wants applicants who are there because they were denied everywhere else. They will likely try to transfer up as soon as possible. If your stats are average for a school then it is less likely that you are using it as a safety.

According the the Common Data Set, BU does value demonstrated interest more than most schools, but I don’t know if it’s enough to make up for low end stats for a school with such a low admission rate. Most of the kids who get in with stats on the low end have some sort of hook. In any event, at this point all you can do is wait and hope for the best. Good luck to you.

Also, any reason you didn’t apply ED? I’m guessing questions about affordability.

Yep you’re right aha it’s just crazy expensive to apply ed

does anyone know if it could possibly come out earlier than the 23rd or do we think that’s set in stone

It’s on their website so I don’t think they will come
Out early

In Section C7 of BUs Common Data Set (CDS) it says BU holds demonstrated interest to be just as important as grades, scores, extracurriculars etc. Could it be a deal breaker for BU if the demonstrated interest is lacking?
