Wow. Okay, so I was just accepted to the CalArts BFA program after being waitlisted for several months. I was the first student on the wait list. I have been so stoked for BU for like, all of high school. I did their summer program last summer and had a great experience, and a great audition afterwards. They were my first choice all along. But when I went to LA to audition at CalArts I fell in love with the campus and all of the opportunities at CalArts. There is so much room for collaboration and their grads are really well connected and involved.

Either school I choose, I would like to someday end up in LA. If I choose BU I will definitely do the "Bu at LA" program after graduation. But calarts is right there and is directly connected to the industry.

Any advice or thoughts would be so helpful!
Ah! I'm freaking out.

BU is in the middle of a good size city. CalArts is in the middle of nowhere.

The school of theater at BU is one department in a very, very large university. The acting program at CalArts is one department in a very small art school.

The school of theater at BU is a theater school that also covers the “professional world of Theatre and the related media of Film and Television.” The acting program at CalArts says it trains students to “be equally adept in theater, film, television and emerging media.”

CalArts seems more interested in creative as opposed to interpretive arts.

If another trip is an option, take advantage of it. You can love a school but that does not mean that you actually belong there.

Hey congrats! We know someone who decided yesterday to turn down Cal Arts because of finances. My daughter applied as well but was not accepted and probably wouldn’t have gone anyway. It was too edgy and artsy not the right place for her for many reasons. BU is amazing! It it’s the difference between a university and a conservatory…night and day. I will always favor a program with strong academics and a degree that stands up in the real world. I get why some people love Cal Arts but the sticker price for an experimental arts program is hard to justify and while it’s near LA, it’s really not. Good luck!

I would consider CalArts, the reputation for the University is great and if you know you would like to end up in LA then you should go ahead and get a jump start on being there. No time to waste! Good luck, both choices seem like good options.

CalArts has graduated a lot of great actors over BU and more prepared actors for the industry, in my opinion. However, if you would like a college experience where the theatre program is good as then BU would be a good choice.
College is what you make it anyway so just go with the school thats best for you and dont depend on anyone elses ranking
PS- However, if you want to live in California, I think it makes sense to go to CAlArts to get a feel for the area

Not sure if you had already decided. If you have any questions regarding CalArts go ahead and feel free to shoot me a PM. I am currently a BFA2 Actor there and I LOVE IT !
