Boston: which day school for the nonbrainy theatre girl

Hello, this is my first post in this forum but I will have lots of questions regarding college for my older daughter who is currently a junior. Presently, considering taking 9th grade yDD out of public high school and transfer to private day school in the metro Boston area. She isn't the best student but is very active in community theatre and intersted in film and tv. Wondering if CC posters are aware of the climates in the are day schools that will welcome the less academic student? How willing are the private schools to accept a student with average public high school performance? Any comments will be welcomed. Mother of 2 daughters: Junior and Freshman in public High School.

Maybe Cambridge School of Weston?

Walnut Hill offers a college prep curriculum with intensive training in the arts. Theater is one of the disciplines offered.

mom2gals…If you are interested in hearing more about Walnut Hill School you can PM me…One of my daughters attended there her senior year of high school…WHS is in Natick by the way…great school and she loved the experience…

When you say your daughter isn’t “great” academically that can mean different things to different people…My daughter had around a 3.5 gpa in public school, was serious about her craft and has some talent…She actually thought that WHS was more difficult then the Conservatory she is now at…(but remember she was there her senior year so I’m sure the stress of college applications/auditions added much to that impression)

In the past I have been interested in Walnut Hill for summer dance programs. It seems like a great school if you are definitlely not looking along the lines of the same academic rigor of HADES or of similar schools. Go for it!

My brother is a working actor and went to Middlesex. 30% Day Students. You won’t be sorry as an adult if you push yourself academically in high school and get a well rounded education. Imo stay away from the intensive acting high schools. There aren’t many working actors who went to those places for high school. How can you create an interesting character if all you learned about in high school was how to move and act?

What about Concord?

Concord Academy has many creative students, but it is an academically demanding school.
