Who here applied to both colleges, and why? Apart from that they are both great colleges.

I applied to both because they’re both different facets of what I think will fulfill me as a person. Columbia will allow me to experience my interests and really go out of my way to find them, whereas Brown will allow me to learn about them in a more controlled environment per se I think.

That, and they’re both in cities. But Providence and NYC aren’t really quite comparable.

Yeah, and the Open Curriculum and all that good stuff would be nice.

I applied to both because I like both of them, even though they’re so different. I love the core, but I also love the open curriculum. I’ll be happy either way, but I would rather go to Columbia.

because they are both amazing colleges

Because theyre the best Ivies
Though personally, I prefer Brown (:

My D did. When she toured Columbia, she really didn’t like it. But interests change quickly when you’re young. She ended up adding it on because her cousin went there, they have a great mixed a capella choir. So, even if it’s a bit of a polar opposite (she also applied to Georgetown…go figure)…one CAN adapt and receive a great education if they’re willing… regardless of the ambiance in which it’s taught.

It’s easier to get used to academics than it is to get used to location.

Keep that in mind I think.

Obstinate, you have the schools mixed up. Columbia is the more controlled environment, with its Core Curriculum. Brown is much more liberal as far as students choosing their path of study, and I’ve been told offers many more obscure courses.
