<p>If my math is correct, some 47% of the slots in the class of 2015 at Bowdoin have already been doled out through the ED process. [Go</a> here to an article in Bowdoin’s student paper for the details.](<a href=“http://orient.bowdoin.edu/orient/article.php?date=2011-02-25&section=1&id=5]Go”>http://orient.bowdoin.edu/orient/article.php?date=2011-02-25&section=1&id=5) Also of note, Bowdoin plans to keep the class of 2015 smaller (no more than 485 and to make sure that it gets there by using the wait list to fill the class out. So 229 of those 485 have already been admitted, which is where my 47% calculation comes from. This is a long way to say expect an admit rate that is less than last year’s 19% or so . . .</p>

<p>i was wondering, what determines whether you get an early write or not? is it like outstanding applicants that they love, or something like that? or is it just a random number of people get in early?

I’m from Southern Oregon, and my son received early admit from Bowdoin today, in a beat-up Priority envelope postmarked March 11.</p>

About $6000 more than FAFSA EFC here, ouch indeed.</p>

<p>If your son gets into a peer LAC/ivy with better finaid, are you going to try to negotiate with Bowdoin or ask them to match? </p>

<p>I had heard that they didn’t match but that $4000 would make all the difference…</p>

<p>Absolutely – the early write means you have something they want, so, in my opinion, it can’t hurt to respectfully ask. </p>

<p>FWIW, though, his two early admits at LACs (Williams and Bowdoin) are practically identical.</p>

<p>@2011: I’m holding onto a (perhaps foolish) hope that I’ll get in somewhere else with amazing finaid and be able to negotiate with Bowdoin, since it’s really one of my favorite schools. <em>crosses fingers</em> </p>
