@kazala: reposting this from the Swat forum. :)

some colleges notify certain applicants earlier, which seems to pretty much mean “we’ve already read your application and are confident that, regardless of what we read next, we want to admit you.” I’ve been admitted to two of my RD schools already, and I’m pretty sure they do that because they know waiting sucks and that the people who receive their acceptances earlier will be appreciative and potentially more inclined to take the offer. The way I see it, it’s basically a shot at increasing their yield. (and probably a successful one. hearing early is a nice feeling.)

Of course, it sucks even more when you don’t hear anything (I haven’t heard back from Bowdoin either…bummer!), but it doesn’t mean anything good or bad for our chances of being accepted. Just keep in mind that we’re already more than halfway through March, so it won’t be much longer! hang in there. :)

A friend suggested that early writes (or lack thereof) indicate how good a “fit” they think you are - any wisdom in that?

I live in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It was postmarked on the 11th. Mail takes forever to get here. And ye, it was a thick usps envelope cuz it came with a course catalogue and a folder of information. It was so surprising!! I was completely not expecting to get in!! 5 schools down, 12 more to go. Good luck everyone!!

So Bowdoin doesn’t have like a set decision date?
I’m an international student, when would I be able to find out whether I got accepted or not?

@PrinceMuzic …My S received a folder with information, but no course catalog…Can you elaborate on this?

Sure.

It was a thick, blue and white paperback that basically detailed the course of the school year for the next two years and gave information about the school as well as class and program descriptions. I haven’t looked through all of it yet but if I see something else, I’ll let you know.

i’m gonna apply to bowdoin next year.
of course bowdoin is my first choice, however, i’m still confused between ED and RD because i’m international student and I need FA. what should I do? :(

@Jennguyen93: ED applications have to be submitted by November 15th and you get notified in December. It’s binding, so if you get in you have to go. You also have to sign an agreement that you won’t enroll in any other schools. RD is due on January 1st and they let you know … sometime around now. It’s not binding, so you have until May 1st to decide whether you want to go. I’m not 100% sure about FA, but I don’t think there’s a difference between ED and RD in that respect. I would say, only do ED if you’re completely sure about bowdoin. I almost did ED but decided that I wanted more time to decide … it’s really a personal choice.

we dont know if it came out already or not, because the office of admissions wont tell you if you call…
we’re just going to have to wait.
