Hola.
I’m a rising senior in a Canadian high school who transferred from Thailand to do his senior year in Canada. I am an American (and I do qualify for in-state in CA, my mother lives there), but I am of mixed race (pacific islander/white). Mother went to Columbia but did not graduate (both parents went to UCB for undergrad). I’m fluent in french and english. I would like to major in Poli Sci or International Relations.
ACADEMICS
GPA-UW: 3.94 – This is not including my senior year which has been moderately rough (two Bs) (which my counselor will be writing about, some issues at home right now), and it was pretty much a 4 (3.99) until the second semester of my junior year when my mother became homeless (she’s a farmer now, idk if that is interesting or not, but I’ll mention it)
SAT I: 1890 , waiting for my December scores
SAT II: Null
AP: Have taken 3 AP Exams (Bio-4, WH-3 (in my sophomore year), Lang and Comp-4), and 3 AP Courses (Bio, Physics C-
Mechanics, Statistics), and I’ll be taking the tests: Physics C, Stats, USGOV, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics in may. I was waitlisted for AP Calc because I moved late, I might be able to add that.
EC/Awards
Varsity: soccer/futsal
JV: Volleyball (team MVP lol)/basketball (captain)
Placed fourth in the JV IHBB World History Bee Thailand, qualifying for the asian championships, but couldn’t go due to financial reasons.
UWC-USA Davis Scholarship Finalist (might write about getting rejected)
Student Council Rep. for two years: acted as liaison with front office at private school. I was the only native english speaker on the team and helped lobby for bringing in FIOS (in rural Thailand), a new bus, repainting the gym, and building a designated Student Council room. Will write some supplements about this.
MUN 3 years
Debate team senior year
3 8 hour stints across SE Asia doing volunteer work as part of a school trip (Volunteer hours are a weakness).
150+ Scuba Dives, advanced PADI Scuba Diver + nitrox (was certified at 10), have done supervised wreck in Japanese wrecks in the Philippines. I may write about this on my essay.
Note: I also went to French immersion school for all of my pre-teen years, including going to school in India. This is another subject for my essays.
More notes: Since I have canadian citizenship, and I don’t have to submit my SAT scores for McGill–I am sticking to reaches/high matches.
Even more notes (sorry but I want to mention everything): I’m in a sort of bad situation at home right now, and my counselor has helped me quite a bit–and wrote a wonderful recommendation letter. My other letters are from my Chem teacher and AP Bio teacher.
Right now my schools are: Bowdoin (test optional), GWU (test optional), Claremont McKenna, Pomona EDII, Berkeley (in-state), Columbia, Princeton (Woodrow Wilson), Stanford
I know–I know. The last three are ridiculous but my SAT I feel went reasonably well (anywhere from 1400 to 1550 but I’m not sure), and I don’t want to regret not applying as the WW school at Princeton is my dream school. Also I have legacy at Columbia. I expect my essays to be top notch so Yeahhhhhh
EDIT: My school at Canada lists my GPA as 4, so that’s what will show first.
