How prestigious is bowdoin compared to schools like amherst williams and swarthmore ? or universities like yale and columbia ? are you considered to be very smart if u attend bowdoin ?

It’s ranked 6th for LAC is US News & World Report. You could take that for what it’s worth.

… yes

It’s really hard to compare LAC’s to Universities, that’s why the rankings don’t do it.

actually I wonder about that too sometimes
it seems like Williams and Amherst are better known
but w.e

Taken from US News & World Report [http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/liberal-arts-rankings]:[/url]

1 - Williams College
2 - Amherst College
3 - Swarthmore College
4 - Middlebury College & Wellesley College
6 - Bowdoin College

So Libsterxd would be right in saying that Williams and Amherst are better known but nonetheless, a Bowdoin education is right up there with them. It’s in the top 10 so I’m sure you’ll be fine.

yeah I think grad schools and employers both highly respect a bowdoin education

Dont necessarily take the US news rankings to heart. Although on U.S. news Middlebury is two spots above Bowdoin, my guidance counselor seemed to think Bowdoin was a step up from Middlebury, and many agree. Many rank Pomona (tied for 6 on US news) above Williams, Amherst and Swarthmore. Honestly-- Williams, Bowdoin, Swarthmore, Middlebury-- they are so close it does not matter.

Some people like to think Amherst and Williams are a step up from Bowdoin and Middlebury-- they really aren’t. It’s not like you think of Bowdoin and think “oh wow students here are a step below Amherst, they probably did not get into Amherst or Williams.” Many students choose Bowdoin over Amherst and Williams and vice versa. People at Williams–and Amherst especially-- may think otherwise, but Bowdoin is very close to A and W, just like how Yale and Harvard are on the same level as Princeton and Columbia.

As for Bowdoin’s comparison to the Ivys, everyone in the educated world knows they are near equivalent. A girl who went to my high school chose Bowdoin over Princeton. People in :the know" hear Bowdoin and are impressed. Choose whatever school you like the most.

No I definately hear you and agree with you. But in this superficial world, all most people care about are rankings (i.e. companies, employers, people in general). I honestly feel that (based off all my research on Bowdoin) it deserves to be higher than just 6, but that’s just my opinion.

im feeling williams, middlebury, and bowdoin as the top 3 nescacs. they each are so different and all good. williams probably stands out a little more than midd and bowdoin but not that much.

amherst is a bowdoin-sized williams wannabe, swat is full of weirdos (just visit and you’ll see what i mean)

a LAC isn’t an ivy but i heard from the seniors that they beat out some of their friends going to ivies for spots at top law schools. also if you want connections to wall street, it’ll be just as easy as an ivy. a friend who graduated 2 years ago works as a trader on a floor of “bowdoin only” people
