Bowles Hall

My friend is going to Berkeley and got placed in Bowles hall. It wasn't his choice and he hasn't had a chance to go up to the campus yet. What is the offhand deal with Bowles? Good? bad?

Thanks a bunch.

you have to eat at foothill

the bathrooms suck

privacy is unknown

pretty much a frat

so they got rid of the cafeteria at Bowles? they used to have really good out-door BBQ's once a week or so.

They still have their BBQ's according to the RA I spoke to.

Bowles: Nice on the outside, but interesting climb to the top. Bathrooms are horrible and rooms in general are poorly lit. It looks like a Dungeon inside and something from along the lines of a bad New York apartment.

However, those students who have been there have grown closer and there is a certain pride in being a Bowlesmen. But the dynamics as it becomes an ALL freshmen dorm, which is more or less, according to some, a bad thing.

I got thrown into Bowles too =(

Hopefully it will be fun there, though.

I'm definitely walking to Crossroads to eat, even if it is farther away than from Foothill.

Crossroads, relative to Bowles, if far...at least a 15 minute walk I think.

i highly doubt you'll walk all the way to crossroads to eat... that's FAR! especially considering the walk back is UPHILL! you'll probably come down from time to time to enjoy (sarcasm..hehe) crossroads, but you can always just get stuff from gbc or whatever to bring back to your dorm.

i'm in bowles too... does anyone know how it will be determined who gets which room in the "3-room suites", or is that for the residents to decide on?

Residents decide. If you have a preference... get there early on move in day.

I was talking to a guy that went to Berkeley in the 60's, and he said that Bowles was considered old back then. And it's not pronounced "bowels," it's "bowls." Have fun there! Nah, it should be fine.

Everyone I know who lived in Bowles really enjoyed it. Don't feel distraught, you'll probably have lots of fun. I heard it has more bonding and fun-stuff (that isn't awkwardly coordinated and underadvertised by RAs) done by the folks that live there than the standard Units and is more social than Clark Kerr. Make the best of your situation.

Can someone tell me about the bathroom situation? What is it like in there? I like my privacy when I shower. Are showers similar to those in Unit 3?

The showers are in stalls just like in the units

Bowles is a great place to live.

Is there any difference between relative levels of privacy?
