So I’m down to deciding between Brandeis and Colgate and my only concern about Brandeis is the alumni network. Colgate’s is particularly strong and I was wondering if alumni at Brandeis were very enthusiastic about Brandeis students and were willing to help them find jobs, etc like Colgate’s. Can anyone fill me in on this?

I'm a Brandeis alumnus and I also hire many people each year.

Suffice to say that the answer to your question is "yes."

Ben Brandzel, a 2003 graduate, ex student director of MoveOn.org, founder of the collegiate click drive, and current staff member with John Edwards' presidential campaign recently spoke at Brandeis about his experiences as a professional activist. He mentioned that almost everywhere he goes in the activist community, he runs into Brandeis classmates he had- not to mention other alumni that were older or younger than him! So while alumni are good to get you your first job, the networking you do in college is also insurmountably important. I can't speak for the alumni network any more than that, but just by speaking to even my grandfather's friends (aka the old, rich, powerful Jewish businessmen at the country club), those who did not attend Brandeis donated money and say they recruit Brandeiseans.

Also, the professors are amazingly well connected if you take the time to get to know them and let them know your interests and plans. I am a freshman and through one of my anthropology professors, I got an amazing summer internship in Boston that will have me doing work that I never imagined I'd be able to do so early in my education. Maybe my next professor will find me one that actually pays this time..
