Hi, I’m a freshman in college considering transferring to Brandeis. I’m interested in pre-med. Are there any brandeis pre-med students out there who can tell me their thoughts on being premed at brandeis? Or does anyone have any input for me on being pre-med at Brandeis? What does everyone think? What is it like being pre-med at Brandeis? Thanks!!

I'd also like to hear an answer on this.

I'm a chem major, not a pre-med, but I think 'Deis has a pretty good acceptance rate into med-school. 80-something %, I believe. The science courses are tough, though, just to forwarn you. Many a pre-med turns history major because of them.

I'm a pre-med. And a senior. I'm applying to med schools right now, so I have the full range of pre-med experience. Shoshie, the acceptance rate for allopathic (M.D.) schools has ranged between 60-75% over the past few years--I have a good chunk of data from the pre-med office. The total pre-health numbers are bumped up somewhat by people doing things like dentistry, osteopathic medicine (D.O.), podiatry, and veterinary school, as in recent years Brandeis has had 100% acceptance in these non-M.D. fields.

Brandeis is very, very, very difficult for pre-meds. I went to a difficult high school, difficult enough that people would come back from Ivy League-caliber colleges and say it was no harder than high school. However, Brandeis has been way tougher than high school, leading to my conclusion that our classes are about as difficult as it gets. Moreover, the science departments' grading policies are very miserly when it comes to awarding good grades. Put that up against other schools' grade inflation and we look downright stupid. (My rough estimation--a 3.4 or 3.5 here would likely be equivalent to a 3.7 or 3.8 at many other prestigious schools; yet based on my experience medical school admissions personal either aren't aware or don't cut us any slack. Overall, the pre-med stuff has made my life here a living hell. I had to go on medication because I was so depressed and stressed, and half the time even the medication didn't work. This is no exaggeration. If you really want to transfer out of wherever you're going I'd recommend looking elsewhere than Brandeis. Just my two cents.
