I just realized that I should have put this on my first thread. Guess I wasn’t thinking .

My son is planning to enter medicine. Any testimonials from Brandeis students/parents concerning the pre-med program/curriculum? I know it’s a good program, but are there any specifics that would be good to know? Thanks.

I am a possible pre-med...a freshman. Brandeis has ab excellent reputation among med schools. I heard that 2 years ago the lowest ranked med school that a Brandeis pre med got into was Johns Hopkins, which as you know is one of the best.

Pre med program is very very competitive however; most pre meds seem to drop out in the first year. It would be be better to skip "intro" classes though, using AP/IB credits. Plan ahead. Since the classes are uber competitive many students seem to drop out. However, if one has a strong high school science base then pre-med is definitely the option.

That's good to know. My son has a very strong science base from his high school (he did well on the APChem and is doing well in APBio).

But I thought that AP/IB credits were looked down upon by the AAMC...I could very well be misinformed. If not, I'll be sure to pass on that information to him. Thanks!

My D complete pre-med (neuroscience major) program at Brandeis and is now a first year student at Tufts Medical. She got into Tufts through the early admission program, as 10 other students from the class of 2008. All I can say is that Brandeis prepared her for med school very well. Many students drop out after 1st or 2nd year of pre-med program, as they should, because if they can't handle their science classes at Brandeis, they have no business applying to medical schools.
