Okay so I have slowly increased my score and I have broke 2000 and I just missed 2100 due to a few silly mistakes here and there but I believe that I can increase this score and possible break 2200. I started out Freshman year with a 158(0) then Sophomore year with a 165(0) as PSAT scores and after acquiring the Blue Book I went up from a 1790 from my first test to an 1890 after a test or two and then I considered buying a few prep books like Erica Meltzers “The Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar” and its workbook counterpart as well as Dr.Chung’s SAT Math and a few other books and I have reached a 2070 in my most recent of tests and here is the break down.
M: 680
CR:680
W:710 (This fluctuates from 710-750)
My questions are how do I go that extra mile to get the 800 in writing?
How can I improve my math scores as I usually get one or two of the hard questions wrong per section which prevents me from ever breaking 700?
And how do I improve CR as it is really hard to do so?
Thanks guys! I hope to hear from you guys soon!
I can make a list of books that I have if you need them.
How many real SAT tests you have taken?
Writing is by far the easiest section to improve on.
For the essay, you need a good introduction paragraph (restate the problem, state two topics that you are going to address, and then conclude by nearly restating your argument), TWO good body paragraphs (you want at least 5 well developed sentences each with an introduction and conclusion sentence), and a concluding paragraph (you want to basically restate your intro paragraph, although word it differently - this paragraph should also be at least three sentences). Also remember to use historical facts to back up your argument (although they actually don’t care if your facts match up - you can say MLK said some weird quote). Speaking of quotes, you can almost always start your entire essay with a quote - the introduction can be based off of developing that quote into something arguable (and it doesn’t have to be a real quote).
If your problem isn’t the essay, then it’s the MC. This is basically memorizing simple grammar rules. You want to read the sentence out loud for the Identifying Sentence Errors part (where they give you a sentence and there are four possible errors and a No Error choice). You want to go over idioms, quirky grammar rules (these may appear once in a SAT), and when to choose a NE. I assume your subject-verb is good, as is your tense rules. However, if you get a 11 or 12 on the essay, you can still afford to get one question on the MC incorrect and still get an 800 usually (but it all depends on the test and the curve).
Math is easy to improve on if you know what you’re doing. For word problems, try to reconigze what the test is asking for and write out an equation. Then solve for that equation. Also make sure to read the problem carefully, as sometimes you will solve for x but the test asks for 1/x and the question has both answers (and you pick the answer for x and get it wrong). So just watch out. Improve geometry skills, as there are definitely some easy and harder ones that deal with triangles, area formulas (even though they give it to you, if you can know them and know when to use them, it helps tremendously), Pythagorean triples (3,4,5 and 5,12,13 are the more common ones though they might use 7,24,25), and finding areas of sectors in circles (angle/360 * area of circle).
@wstsrslfwagw I haven’t taken any REAL Sat’s, just PSAT’s and four of the ten tests in the Blue Book and my most recent grade is that 2070.
@redwall1521 thanks a lot!
