breaking 3500 impresive for ivies or not

i am not trying to be arrogant and i am totally proud, but is breaking 3500 for combination of sats and topo 3 sat2s impressive or just avg for the upper echelon of schools.

there are more important things to worry about...

Um, it's just fine, but it's really not that impressive to the Ivies. I know many people who are in the 3800's and 3900's, and still attempting to improve their scores. I'm personally very concerned about the competition with >3950, and I'm trying to improve my SAT I scores to achieve that goal.

Joey

it's really not that impressive, it means u average a 700 on all ur tests... which means 1400 sats and 700 sat II's, which is good, but it's only average, not impressive

3500 is not all that impressive for ivies...

Look...you figure most kids have the 1400+...and then a lot of them test well in their strengths (750+ on writing or physics/chemistry).

I figure most ivy league apps have around a 3700 total.

oh wow. I feel good about myself, then. :) I have 3910 total, I think. that means that I'll only be more disappointed when they reject me.

25% of students admitted and attending Harvard have SAT Is BELOW 1370, more than 50% below 1450. Theirs are the highest. It is even lower at the other 7 Ivies. On the other hand, they reject roughly half of the 1600s.

That pretty much tells you how much truck they put in the SATs.

wait... so... is a 3690 impressive at all??? damn... and i thought that was pretty good... :( oh well, i still have another 2 to take... chinese (which i speak fluently) and bio, in which i'm pretty good at, another 2 shots at 3700+

SAT's are meaningless. Im at 3870 and it doesn't mean anything.

SAT's mean something. A good score is necessary to pass the initial academic filter.

sure. But I think that if you've got a decent score (1350-1550) there's no need to kill yourself to break the 1560 mark

I would say a 3500 is the bare minimum to have a chance unless you are an athlete or black.

Just as a question for everyone - how impressive does breaking a 3900 look, and how much more impressive does breaking a 3950 look? I'm really interested in this particular question, as I'm not really sure how many people can and do achieve this. It seems like a great number of people, but then again, it may be fewer individuals than I think.

Joey

well, once again.. if ur applying to like harvard they reject plenty of great scoring people.. generally once you get up there it's pretty close.. it's the other stuff that'll make or break the app

3500 gets you in the door, but its not outstanding or anything, at least for the Ivies.

so i feel the genreal consensus is that as long as u break 3500 its the ecs and essays that really matter i mean getting closer to 4000 will help but not as much as stronger ecs and essays. is this true?

yeah that's more or less it. basically, there's no great difference between 3850 and 3950. the SAT isn't the ultimate deciding factor in your application (and thank goodness for that!)

3500 is mediocre. 3800 should be the median.

3500 is about average for the mid ivys
