is it true that williams has a shortened winter break....how does winter study affect that?

Williams does have a shorter winter break than most schools. And in my opinion, this was one of the BEST features of Williams.

Most of my high school friends spent their month-long breaks at home bored out of their minds. Barring interesting travel opportunities or something similar, being at home for a month really loses its sheen after a week or so. Williams, on the other hand, has a break of a mere two weeks. For most of January, students spend their time on campus (or somewhere else if you have a special winter study project), and it is AWESOME. You take only one class that meets 2-4 times a week for only a couple of hours at at time. The class itself is usually pretty interesting and less than rigorous (at most, a 10-page paper at the end of the month). The rest of your time is yours. We’re talking nearly complete freedom on a college campus without the stress of actual work. Recreation and bonding. An entire month of it.

thank you,
:)

i was concerned it would make everything off sync with my friends, glad to see its fun

Short break was always annoying, but Winter Study is pretty unique. I never would have read Borges or spent a month learning German in Germany otherwise :)

As a parent, I was drawn to the 4-1-4 schedule…
More bang for the (mucho) bucks!

Yet another reason to pick Williams College. :)
