Briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences. (150 words)

Multiple colleges ask this question. Is it better to elaborate on an extracurricular activity that relates to your major or would it be better to make your application more diverse and elaborate on a different activity? A lot of applications already have a STEM essay/short answer so I could showcase my sciency side with that. I have 2 extracurricular activities that I am equally passionate about and could talk about both really well but I don’t know which one to choose. I’m leaning towards talking about the science one just cause I’m gonna be a engineering major.

Use the college application to showcase the various “key sides/talents/skills” of you. If you already elaborated about a science activity/experience in another essay, then write something else. Otherwise, for engineering majors, a math/science/technology activity/experience is best.

Whatever is important to you. Don’t think about what will impress colleges or what do they want to see.

Don’t overthink it and go with a gut. What’s an extra curricular that you put a lot of time into, and what motivates you to keep working at that said extra curricular
