Bright kid, not great GPA - suggestions?

Since you don’t expect merit because of his GPA, does that mean that you’ll pay full freight ($55k+ per year) for college?

Since his school doesn’t weight grades do this…ask the GC if she’ll determine the weighted GPA and write it on his transcript. If so, and his weighted GPA is a 3.5 or higher, than Alabama would give him free tuition if he applied before Dec 1 and submitted the scholarship app. Bama does accept a GC-handwritten weighted GPA on a transcript. Other students have faced the same issue. It can make the difference between a $90k merit scholarship…or not.

BTW…this Fall, 374 freshman from Texas enrolled at Bama. Texas is the #2 ranked state for sending students to Univ of Alabama.

We will manage to pay the EFT but cheaper options are always welcome.

My son is willing to stay in state as long as he does not have to live at home. In-state is attractive because at least we would not have much travel cost. Also it is easier to visit in state schools.

That being said, out of state is fine if it is a good fit. I will take a look at Alabama and the other suggestions.

He is a NMSF if it makes any difference - but his grades probably wont be high enough to make finalist.
