British Applicant: Help appreciated.

Hey guys,

I am pretty new to this forum so I am not sure how this works but I will give it a shot. As you can tell from the subject, I am planning to apply to a few ivy league universities involving: Harvard, MIT, Princeton and maybe Stanford.

My GCSE, or grades at the end of grade 10. Where A* in 90%+. 9A*s and 5 As( the As in less academic subjects).

My A levels or AP( I think ??) : Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry.

Extracurriculars: Basketball team; badminton team; expedition to rural morocco: constructed irrigation systems, built foundations for a new school, and prevented disease; 1 week apprenticeship at JP Morgan; 1 year at old age home; part of mathematics committee.

I know this is all just speculation, but after some practice SAT tests I am receiving around 2300, but only started a few days ago so hopefully go up. I am still doing work on SAT subject tests: Maths II and Physics. I will take these tests actually a few months later.

Thats about it, thanks a lot for the help people- much appreciated.

I believe there’s a thread on The Student Room about this, where people may be able to help.

No one has any serious information about it, I already tried unfortunately. Are you willing to offer a judgement ?
Thanks.

I want to know more about your EC “prevented disease”!

Seriously, for the universities you are looking at you will want to have a story to go with your numbers.

Your GCSEs are good, and I gather that you will be applying with AS marks, so if those are as strong you are in good shape on that front. An SAT of 2300 and SATIIs in the 700s- if you achieve that- is fine.

Just based on the way you have presented them, your ECs are unremarkable- it looks like some sport and some generic community service. No evidence of sustained commitment, of growth, of leadership roles.

For the top schools (and oddly, particularly for Stanford) you need something that separates you from the thousands of other very bright high achieving applicants. So, what’s your story?
