Hello,

I'm doing a Foundation in Art and Design in England at the moment, and I'm thinking of going to the US to do a film and television degree. (A Foundation in Art and Design is a one year, non-degree course that you take at a college. It helps you prepare for an art and design degree, and most UK art universities are unlikely to accept you without one, unless you're amazing). I've tried calling the colleges for help on these questions, but none of them know what a Foundation in Art and Design is (understandably) and I don't think they understand what I'm asking. If you know the answers to any of these, or have had any experience with this, please tell me!

With a foundation in art and design, am I a freshman or a transfer student? The only reason I care so much is because I want my foundation to transfer in credits, so that I'm closer to graduation, saving me time and money.

I called UCLA; the lady said they won't accept me as a freshman because I'm "at college". However the programme I'm studying right now isn't a degree; it's a one-year diploma. It's halfway between high-school and college. But, I'm studying it at a college. Could I then argue my case as a freshman? (They won't accept transfer students at sophomore standing, so I can't apply as a transfer student).

If I'm a transfer student, I haven't done all that "two semesters of college level English composition" and "at least two college-level courses in Arts and Humanities, Sciences, etc etc" malarkey, since I've been in England. Will that matter in my application, since I'm international?

Thanks for any help! Sorry if it all sounds a bit confused. I confuse myself with all of it! But I'm really grateful for any help anyone can give me.
