British Historian Jailed For Denying Holocaust

Plus, Irving has never really been that well-respected by most circles. He's been maligned since the 70s, for Jeebus' sake.

I hate people who pull this, because it's a cop out. It's basically saying, "I don't have enough faith in my own argument to keep it going, so I'll just leave and try to act "above it all."

That's pretentious cocky fools for you. Always yell the loudest, and first to run home with their head between their legs.

I think this guy is unfairly jailed. Curtailing speech, even hate speech is an assault on freedoms. I would not like to see even the most hateful skinhead be jailed for what he says. Anti hate laws are just politically correct terms for anti free speech laws.

actually, i respect your right to an opinion-to your free speech, even! note the parallel!

i recognize that you and those that agree with you have extremely strong convictions, and respect the fact that we most likely won't reach a consensus. maybe it wouldn't kill you to do the same?

goodnight.

That's the third time you've insisted you're leaving, and yet still you return. Odd.

katiebee,

I respect your opinions. I just think you're copping out. ;)

Reaching a 'consensus' really doesn't make anything right or wrong, incidentally.

Btw, UCLA, google Hizen Cho and ur name comes up on the 5th link or so haha.

I don't respect them. I respect that they are hers, but that doesn't mean I have to respect them.

Aw, I'm a minor celebrity!

haha, if you were serious about the holocaust being a joke thing, I guess we finally got something in common.

I am not saying that the Holocaust never happened (it did); its just that the event was horribly exaggerated.

I have yet to see a convincing source that shows that it was that exaggerated. There's also the fact that lots of people just up and vanished.

Woah, maybe Metal Slug was right, and the Nazis were in bed with aliens!

"People would quickly disprove their claims and move on, as has happened with Irving."

Irving seems to have a decent audience for his views on this site alone.

There will ALWAYS be an audience looking to not believe the prevailing opinion. Attacking them with legal sanctions is only likely to further make them believe they're right.

EAD: Neither should be punished.,

Also, I don't see the fairness in jailing people for claiming the Holocaust did not exist, while allowing countless other war crimes and genocides go unnoticed. What about the Japanese systematically killing millions of Chinese civilians during World War II? There have been many people who have denied that it occured; why aren't we jailing them?

Its politically incorrect to say that Chinese and Cubans committ human right violations, or that slavery existed before the Europeans ever came to Africa...but I digress.

The only reason the Chinese dont get much attention is cause they're not white.

I disagree in part. While it arguably is partly that, another reason is pure politics. The US is not nearly as sympathetic to the PRC as it is to Japan. Is it right? No. But it is what it is.

However, I don't believe that it's a white/non-white thing, because we certainly pay a lot of attention to black slavery as a historical issue, and there is definitely some cognisance of what happened in Rwanda. Unfortunately, however, the Chinese-American lobby is very quiet about these issues, and so far hasn't really made the concerted effort to get it on the radar like the Jewish lobby has.

I mean, look at the Armenian genocide. Armenians are white, but they get no attention whatsoever. The difference? Probably lobbying power.
