Can anyone weigh in on the top, most impressive schools for Broadcast Journalism? The ones that give good experience, opportunity to have a portfolio of great clips? I know University of Missouri, Syracuse and Northwestern are at the top ... but where else? Thanks.

You might also look at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida -- I'm serious about this opportunity. A couple of ESPN sports reporters have come out of there and have supported the college's broadcast journalism program.

Do any offer a sports emphaisis? I graduated from Columbia Journalism and I was told most colleges frowned on weather and sports journalism. While they may offer a course, I don't believe -- but I could be wrong -- there is a concentration out there in sports journalism per se.

I agree, Ivyleaguer. However, the student wants a sports career, so needs a school where there may be opportunity to hone that small area of his craft. That's the only reason why I mentioned it briefly.

try ohio university, which has good journalism and a renowned graduate program in sports administration. another growing one is u of west virginia.

You are leaving out the school most known for sports journalism. Ithaca College has a great program that has turned out many famous alums including the head of espn. Recently an Ithaca alum was made the CEO of Disney.

ithaca is a very fine institution for its size. missouri also has many distinguished alums in sports journalism such as john walsh at ESPN and rick hummel of the st. louis post dispatch, both of whom served as sports columnists at the columbia missourian for credit while completing degree requirements. with a degree from columbia you can write your own ticket.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We have some research to do!

Add the University of Texas-Austin to the list, one of the few schools to offer an actual sports journalism major: http://journalism.utexas.edu/undergraduate/sportsjournalism.html

Ithaca and Syracuse
