I was advised that this area may find more results for me. Worth a shot! I have asked this many times, but I still feel there is more information to be found, and new voices are appreciated. My heart is set on sportswriting as a career and I want to know what universities have to offer in this career field. Any info on specific colleges with sports journalism programs would be great! Thanks.

Look at journalism programs first. Sports journalism is a subsegment of that.

Ithaca College has a sports media program I believe
look at other schools with sports management, they may have offerings.

Agree with Meredith. Employers look for journalists first, sports specialists second. So look at colleges with good media/journalism programs. Northwestern, of course, is a standout in this area. Others that I know of are U of Missouri, U of Georgia and Syracuse. George Washington U has a decent program in a brand new building.

UNC Chapel Hill. As a UNC journalism graduate and parent of a UNC freshman planning a journalism major, I heartily recommend it! My advice is no matter where you go, apply to be on the staff of the student newspaper (The Daily Tar Heel at UNC) to get valuable experience.
Good luck!

Michael Wilbon (ESPN) went to Northwestern for journalism, I think.

And Stuart Scott went to UNC!
Of course, Jay Bilas went to Duke, but he didn't have to major in jouralism to get his ESPN gig.

Syracuse maybe?

quinnipiac univ in ct. has an excellent school of communication, which includes sports media program. also many students get internships and jobs at ESPN IN Bristol ct. ESPN is only 40 minutes from Quinnipiac University.Definitly worth the look.
