Brooklyn College and Conservatory

Does anyone have any thoughts on Brooklyn College and its Conservatory? I am looking to study clarinet performance and creative writing in college. I was told Brooklyn College is a good fit for both of these, but that was the first time I had heard about it. Are the academic and music departments well qualified?

Thank you for any input!

There is some excellent music faculty at Brooklyn, including a number who also teach at any number of the Eastern top flight music schools and conservatories. As I mention in one of the posted links, I would pay particular attention to the peer quality of fellow musicians. There may be a very broad range. As a performance aspirant, the private instructor and peer quality of fellows should be among your top priorities in looking at music programs. If you can arrange a trial lesson, and sit in (or preferably participate) in a studio class or orchestral rehearsal, it will give you a feel for the program.
I can’t speak to the academics, but my understanding is the CUNYs offer an exceptional bang for the buck.
