@tuty143 Congrats!!!
I would be ecstatic if I get even waitlisted because you know that Brown is seriously considering admitting you :’)
@tuty143, Congratulations!!!. Brown alone or Brown PLME?
@J2H239 Brown alone
Who else has a countdown set? 27 days!
Hey guys random question: but how do you think I should contact the admissions office about an award I received
@tuty143 You truly deserve to reach heights. That humility itself will take you places
Congratulations my friend
@exl028 I think your application might already have been read by now but you should still upload a little paragraph briefly detailing your accomplishment. As soon as you do, call up the admissions office and ask for your regional counsellor. Tell him/ her about it so that they’ll skim through your application again.
@exl028 It depends on the seriousness of the award. A statewide or national award? Sure. Being cited as “best X” by your teachers or a $1000 scholarship winner? Not in the slightest.
Basically, if one were to google your name and prize, would it even register? If yes, update. If not, don’t.
Think about this: imagine all the awards and scholarships that everyone else in the Brown pool will have rec’d from Jan 2016 until May 2016. In that context, does yours stand out?
The ‘Google Litmus Test’! Lol
@T26E4 Im publishing a paper (research) and I won a national award
@rahuilmars231 it’s less about “even better” schools in the rarified company that Brown keeps, and more about the “right” school for the student/applicant. My daughter may have been able to get into Harvard, but the BEST school for her was Brown. I think that mutual feeling was reflected in her ED acceptance. On a side note, a classmate of hers just got his LL. That would make three from her senior class that may be headed to Brown! (her friend was also accepted ED)
Got a likely letter today! Non-athlete, neuroscience
@mybarra
Congrats!
@omgBrown I totally agree with what you said. Indians’ typical emphasis on prestige often tends to make us refrain from looking at anything other than the prestige and brand value appended to the said school.
Congratulations on the Acceptance
You must be really proud. And going to the same college with best friends is something very few people get to experience. Your daughter is one lucky lady!
@mybarra Congrats!!! Did you receive an email? Or just a physical copy of the letter?
@asiankid88
I am not sure how they do it for international students but I am an Out of State student and I received my Brown “LL” via regular mail (physical print via snail mail).
By the way Brown does follow up with an email about two weeks later (separate email letter congratulating you on being a recipient of LL).
I’m a Brown applicant who was deferred during ED and I was wondering if any of you guys have heard of a situation like mine. Well, I have a super unique cultural background, I’ve only gone to school in the US for almost 2 years now and I’m doing really great academically and in every other way. My interview last November went incredibly well and ended with the guy telling me “I’m sure you’ll get in. Just worry about how much money you get. There’s no doubt in my mind you’ll get in. 100%. Don’t worry about it.”. How did I remember these words exactly? Well, he said them so many times that I couldn’t help but remember them. December 10 came and I got deferred. Now, I’m not upset because I know a deferral isn’t a rejection and I still think no matter how many people tell me “You’ll get in”, the chances of me actually getting in are really small, but I’m surprised that people representing Brown in these interviews (who don’t actually decide whether you get in or not) can say something of this sort to get the applicant’s hopes way up. I just thought it was weird and rather unprofessional.
@thebrain13
I agree that it’s inappropriate for an alumni interviewer to assure you acceptance however interviewers are humans too and perhaps he/she was so impressed or related deeply with your life/academic story that drove him/her to deviate from standard operating procedures. We as humans can have moments of weakness where emotions take over. The fact that the interviewer is volunteering his/her time to the application process means they are passionate about it.
@IfnousWHO
Oh, absolutely. I still consider that interview one of the greatest moments of my life and I appreciated my interviewer’s comments. I just want to say to people who might have a really successful interview and might hear what I heard: while these amazing comments are true, don’t put all of your faith in them. I’m glad I was always kind of paranoid about admission and didn’t do that. You don’t want to be disappointed: Brown is a reach for everyone. If you’re really a great applicant, somebody will see that, just like your interviewer did. And if you don’t get into Brown, or any school, it doesn’t mean that no one on that admissions committee wanted to accept you.
