@thebrain13 I definitely had a few interviewers that said similar things to me, but I believe what they meant is “I subjectively think you are an amazing fit for the school, and I’d be surprised if adcoms didn’t see the same.” But a lot of my interviewers made it incredibly clear that they had very little connection with admissions aside from the interview form they fill out. They also all had a little speech about the acceptance rates at the various schools and how they still don’t understand how they were accepted. They would even tell me about how they had had incredible applicant interviews before and thought “They will get in they have too!” and then have not so great ones where they said “They are not a good fit” and the great interviewee was rejected and the bad interviewee accepted. So take the comments as compliments, but don’t read into it anymore which I think you’ve already been doing. Good luck!!
@asiankid88 Thanks! Physical letter dated March 1st.
@thebrain13 I agree that no interviewer should ever definitively ensure that an applicant will get in. Remember that the interviewer has not seen your application and they are largely going on what you tell them about your academic record during the interview, so you have to take with a grain of salt what he or she says about your chances.
My interviewer said she would be really happy to advocate for me to admissions and that I would do great at Brown, but also said point-blank that there wasn’t a lot she could do, she knew first hand how actually random admissions can be, and that if I didn’t get in it wasn’t a reflection on me as a person. She also told me I shouldn’t be so stressed because no matter what happens, she thought I would do great and succeed at any school I went to. I really appreciated it because she was truthful and didn’t make any kind of promises that she really can’t follow through on, but still managed to be reassuring.
