**Brown Class of 2020 RD applicant thread**

@tuty143 I’m counting down too! It’s the only thing that’s making waiting even barely okay

I too have had a countdown on my phone! 12 days feels like forever but then I remember that making the countdown and seeing “64 days” feels like yesterday! Luckily (kind of) I have exams this week so I will be very busy and the time will fly!

I remember when the countdown said “78 days” and how happy I was when we passed the 40 day mark…and now we’re almost done.

I took off of work for the 31st because I would be working during decisions or right after, and I will either need some time alone or I will be throwing a party lol $-)

@Definehuman Brown’s semiotics department dissolved years ago and was absorbed into the Department of Modern Culture and Media. You can no longer major or get a degree in Semiotics At Brown. University of Toronto still has an UG semiotics program.

From a quick survey of the courses offered at MCM, you can see that it’s still fundamentally a semiotics program, although mixed in with several production courses.

It’s my understanding that Victoria College offers a minor in semiotics within a larger anthropology program. I hope I’m mistaken here as this affords me another option haha.

EDIT: Been looking at the UoT and Victoria College sites for a while. It’s unfortunately a minor.

guys its the same day as an interview for a scholarship; so its either going to be a great day or bad day; ugh and like im so nervous

i feel like i’m the only one who hasn’t applied for any external scholarships lol

I’m feeling you @DefineHuman. I have no hope after my waitlist at Kenyon.

I applied for a lot of local scholarships, and I’ve heard back from a few, but unfortunately I missed most of the deadlines for the major scholarships because I was focusing on college apps.

@TheDeutschlander2222… I also got waitlisted @ kenyon yesterday.

@TheDeutschlander2222 @hotpotatoe254 I got waitlisted too! That was my first non-acceptance. It was a bit shocking because almost all of my other schools gave me scholarships. I know Kenyon puts a huge emphasis on interest, so I think that may have been a factor in my waitlist decision (even though I was actually REALLY interested in Kenyon, I don’t think it came across). I can’t help but feel like I have no chance at Brown now. :-S

Lol my rejection at Johns Hopkins destroyed my hopes - not even waitlisted! I just need the days to pass as quickly as possible.

Where has everyone gotten in so far? Just for something fun to talk about. So far I’ve only gotten into safeties- UConn, Villanova, McGill- and BU. I got rejected from Northwestern which low key destroyed me but I’m getting over it

I’ve gotten into Boston University, Northeastern, Macalester, Smith (I know already because they gave me an early write), University of Washington, and the University of Portland (super safety, lol). I got scholarships for almost all of them, but I was waitlisted at Kenyon.

@ckk2007, Don’t sweat it. I got waitlisted by Johns Hopkins, which was especially surprising considering the people that got in from my school last year. Gathering from other people’s experiences it seemed really inconsistent this year.

For sake of sharing, so far I’m into UConn and have likely letters from Brown and Cornell. Rejected by MIT. Decisions can’t come soon enough, especially since financial aid will make or break a lot of my schools.

I’ve gotten into UCSD, UCLA, UC Davis, University of Washington, and Middlebury as a “Feb.” I was rejected from Northwestern which crushed me. I got wait listed at Grinnell which makes sense seeing that I didn’t accept the interview request and didn’t opt to write the Why Grinnell supplement. Hoping I’ll have some more luck with the Ivies than Northwestern!

What are likely letters? @sorotot

@idkwhichcollege, see http://www.collegeconfidential.com/dean/what-are-likely-letters-like/

They’re basically letting recruited athletes and top candidates know that they will be admitted come decision time. I guess they’re to get you thinking about the school early, before all the decisions come flooding in.

@idkwhichcollege - I’m stalking this thread for my D. She and you have similar acceptances. She was accepted at UCSD, UCLA, U of Colorado, Middlebury as a Feb. Rejected from Pomona. Still waiting for UCSB, UCB, Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, USC and Brown.
