Is it harder to get into Brown as a computer science major? What if I'm a girl? That won't make a difference, will it? I'm opting for a B.A. in computer science... good or bad? :( I was rejected from my early school and I think I have no hope anyway.

In general, it is good to be a girl applying in a traditionally male field. I don't know about Brown. Of course, if they believe you about CS, then they will look very closely at your math grades and scores. So they will take lots of people with less math talent than the typical CS major, but who are not planning to major in something that requires that quantitative ability.

If your early school was comparable in selectivity to Brown, then classify Brown as a reach, and be sure to include some matches and safeties.

Math grades and scores aren't a problem, and I took an APCS class too and did well in that. Actually, grades and scores in general aren't a problem; it's everything else. :( Ah well, it's grad school that REALLY counts, right?

Being a girl will probably help some as long as you can back it up. But yeah, classify Brown as a reach. It's worth a shot isn't it?

Look Jr. High is very important. Freshman year is important, Sophomore year is important, etc, etc, etc. If they're all important there's no basis for comparison and school doesn't matter at all. :)
