Mine says 7pm my local time, which is Pacific! That’s 5 hours later than most east coasters who will get theirs 5pm eastern. What are the odds I will get my decision earlier despite what the email says because in all honesty, the excitement of my Brown decision may be gone 5 hours after I hear back from all the other ivies.

yeah… i forgot about this email, my email also says 7 pm my local time, which is mountain time… ARG! I was thinking it would be available at 5 because of what it says on Brown’s homepage under admissions: 5 PM EST… Does this really mean I must wait 4 more hours on top of the wait i’ve been anticipating?!?

Perhaps the website is correct?

I can hope, can’t I?

ALmost the same as Inert101, the only difference is that I live in somewhere GMT+8 so I might get my decision 12 hours earlier than anyone in the US…
Is that possible? I mean will the admission officers stay up late at that time for us international applicants? Hardly I guess…

But aren’t all the ivys bound by contract to release decisions by 5:00 pm EDT?

It just seems quite strange that I’ll be getting my decision when it’s the middle of the night on the east coast…

Many of the questions asked above can easily be answered by just reading through this same thread… :)

good that I checked this thread. I got the email, too and see that there is a different site to check the decision, It is not the one that you check your app status. However, they are saying that you use the same login info. it says 5pm your local time.

what if it said:
“We suggest that you bookmark this site; your admission decision will be available online no sooner than 6:00PM (your local time).”
I am east coast so???

It’s ALMOST as if Brown did their math backward.

Let’s say they released all decisions at 5pm EST.
Europe would get it late in that day (not EARLY…like they’re hearing).
West coast would get it earllier in that day (not LATER…like they’re hearing).

Seems so odd. But it doesn’t EXACTLY match up that way. Some west coasters have same time as mountain. Some east coasters have 5p and some have 6p. Guess they’re just trying to stagger to avoid a crash. Still…very odd.

It’s definitely staggered to avoid crashes but the other reason is that schools don’t like to release decision during school hours because it can be a distraction. That’s why MIT won’t be releasing decisions on 3/14 @1:59pm next year.

I got all the emails, but being from the east coast mine says 6 pm my local time

im really nervous now

^ I highly doubt differences in the time they say you can check means anything.

I just dont understand why two people who go to the same exact school ended up with different times.
It’s just strange.

^ Oh wow, really? What were the different times?

And has anyone decided whether or not getting an email actually means something important?

People on CC do this every year and every year the answer is the whole thing is meaningless.

I also got this e-mail. Except I got it like mid-feb and then on march 10 I got the timing one…

i havent gotten the email yet from brown but got it from 3 other schools…

I wouldn’t freak out. They sent a similar email/called counselors about 1st term grades for EDers. I didn’t get the email/call, and I got in. My friend got the email, and also got in. Moral of the story – emails like this don’t mean that you are or are not in.

i’m actually glad that people are discussing this matter on CC…it shows me that i’m not the only crazy and paranoid applicant to Brown :P
