Brown ENGINEERING or Northwestern

Hey guys!

I’m lucky to have been admitted to three great schools (Brown, NU, and UCLA), however I’m having a VERY tough time choosing between the three.
I absolutely love the atmosphere at Brown. The friendliness and open curriculum definitely draw me to Brown, and I feel like I’d just fit in socially there. However, I’m concerned about Brown’s engineering program, which, from what I heard, seems to be at a much lower level than schools like NU. I’m probably going to pursue graduate school, but I’m also concerned about Brown’s placement in top engineering grad schools. Is Brown a good option for engineering?

Thanks for any input!

I am facing the same hard choices as you; I have to decide between Brown and Johns Hopkins. I like the atmosphere, location, and humanities courses at Brown but I know that as a research-focused university, JHU would provide more opportunities in engineering and the sciences. On Brown’s web page (for EE, [Brown Engineering Career Choices in Electrical Engineering](http://www.engin.brown.edu/undergrad/career/electrical.html)) graduates do go on to MIT, Stanford etc. I guess it’s up to the student to find and take advantage of opportunities. I have not seen a Brown engineering student yet. Students at Brown do tend to enjoy the place very much.

Thanks for input! The graduate school matriculation really reassures me, although the website just seemed to name schools and not actually give statistics. Just curious, which school do you plan on attending?

My situation is: JHU and Brown both don’t have a curriculum and allow me to get both and engineering degree and BA in Classics. My heart is tending towards Brown, but objectively I know JHU with its reputation and focus as a science-research university would serve me better for engineering. JHU is also offering me a 5 year MSE/BA with grad fellowship in the last year. I’m currently finding out as much as I can about both schools at the moment.

Wow! Our situations draw such a striking parallel. I’m researching as much as I can, but I’d really appreciate input from anyone else here! Thanks!
