Brown or georgetown! help-- time running out!

i need to decide between brown and georgetown. i got similar financial aid for both schools. my major is either int’l relations/poli.sci or business. i visited both, and i i liked gtown better but i’m fine with brown…

the problem about gtown is its reputation and financial problem. i know ranking shouldnt determine the school, but gtown is falling every year partly due to its lack of funding and because other deans and provosts at other schools dont seem to liek it very much.

should i go by this ranking or should i just go where i like it best? i want to go to a really good grad. school like everyone else so… i dont know where to go!! PLEASE HELP~

brown..i would say..lol

Are you considering SFS or GT College?

Georgetown is a fine school but fails by comparison to Brown University.

I really do not believe it is a close call.

georgetown college but i might transfer into the SFS if thats wat im interested in.. im just wondering--wat exactly in ur opinions makes brown better than gtown? or.. vice versa?
thanks so much

In the spirit of Brown, you probably ought to choose Georgetown. Brown's academic philosophy is all about making the decisions that are right for you - not the ones that are "right for everybody." That's what the open curriculum, the grading options and the Brown Advising System are all about: learning how to think for yourself and make your own decisions.

That in mind, I say prestige be damned. Who cares if Gtown has a lower endowment or less prestige? If you like it better you should go with your gut. By opting for the "safe" option over what you feel is right you are only setting yourself up for regret later.

Boo Jesuits!

Come to Brown.

If you liked Gtown better, you should probably go there.

Oh, I totally didn't read that you liked Gtown better.

Go there.

for intl relations/poli sci go to gtown. plus you like it better. rankings are completely stupid.

thanks so much =)
im free to more opinions if people have them!

I'm biased, so I'd say Brown.

But my more reasonable side says to go wherever you'd feel best. If you'd feel awesome at Georgetown, definitely go there. Because, who cares about rankings? And, as far as I can see, there's no difference in prestige between Brown and Georgetown. So just set those factors aside, and choose Georgetown if that's where you'll be happiest.

If you feel that you would be happier at Gtown, go there. Prestige is not nearly as important as your experience. If you went to Brown and were not happy there, you would later regret not going to Gtown. As long as you remain diligent, you will be able to attend a good grad school. Go with your heart and not you brain.

you will be well educated at either school. if one school is academically better than the other it is only slightly.would you rather spend 4 years on brown's campus or 4 years on the campus of georgetown? do you prefer d.c. or providence? do you prefer the student body at g'town or at brown?

what are the reasons you prefer georgetown? it may be easier to give you an idea of whether or not brown would better meet your needs with specifics

the watson institute is a great place to study international relations--faculty include:

Fernando Henrique Cardoso (former president of Brazil)
Xu Wenli (founder of China's Democratic Party)
Sergei Khrushchev (Nikita Khrushchev's son)
Pierre Buyoya (former President of Burundi)
James G. Blight (responsible for Academy Award-winning Fog of War)
and on and on...

all teach undergrads

Actually, I would disagree. The two schools are reputably similar, though Brown is an Ivy.

And by the way, if you were trying to come of as pompous and ignorant, then you pulled it off.

Georgetown is Matt's dream school in the highly acclaimed film The Girl Next Door. Therefore, it is very prestigious.

Seriously, Georgetown is at least as prestigious as Brown and just as good a school, for different reasons.

wow thanks so much to everyone for replying
yeah i mean i didnt want to come off as saying that i dislike brown. it's just that georgetown seems to be a place that have more people like, albeit with a smaller asian population--not necessarily a bad thing but just a diff. environment from what i grew up with. i do love gtown's location. but i talked to a gtown undergrad who is an alum of my h.s. and she actually told me to go to brown for reasons such as lack of funding and a lack of better facilities.

brown offers a more flexible curriculum and their grad. school rates were pretty enticing.. in addition their facilities seem to be better than gtown's and i've often heard that brown has a more diverse and open student body.

nd thank you to dcircle-- i didnt even know about watson. is it for undergrads too?

yeah, the watson institute both runs and is the center of the undergrad concentration although as an IR concentrator you have to take core classes across several academic departments (economics, public policy, foreign language etc.)

all professors and lecturers at the watson institute are required to teach undergrads. Some of the fellows are exempt from teaching a course, but you can still hear them speak at colloquia and engage with them through projects outside the classroom (Brown Journal of World Affairs, etc.)

here's the link to the undergrad program

For what it's worth, Brown isn't in the best financial shape either.
