Brown over

(similar thread on the Dartmouth forum)

What made you choose Brown over all the other schools out there (yeah ED applicants!)? What sets Brown apart from the rest of them all?

Ok so technically Brown hasn't accepted me yet, but if/when they do (I'm an unjustified optimist) I would pick Brown over any other school. The Open Curriculum is incredible because it promotes learning for sake of learning and generally promotes intellectual growth and experimentation. I've heard that the student body at Brown is distinctly non-competitive with one another (again that relaxed learning environment). I just love imagining that I could major in my favourite subject (history) but also learn a new language, explore psychology, discuss philosophy, try my hand at politics and maybe even.... do some maths or hard sciences without worrying about getting that A (you can take classes Pass/Fail if you want to). Providence is also a great student city. It's not that big, but there's stuff to do and Thayer Street is pretty great!

IF (big if) I get in , to all my schools I would pick Brown Over Columbia and Cornell, and Duke but I would Pick princeton or stanford or pomona over brown

Why would you pick Stanford, Pomona or Princeton oer Brown, collegehopeful78?

Well I need a full ride and Princeton/Stanford/Pomona (which are all famous or ranked in the top 10 for their financial aid/are in the top 10 for largest endowment per student) because they can sure as heck provide me with better aid than brown.

I live near the U of C, where each year, they stage a "Naked Run" through campus after finals. In fact, it happened just yesterday... Somehow, I think Brown would be similarly bacchanalian at such times, but without the omnipresent grimness found in certain parts of hyde park.

Re: Naked Runs.

Yes, we do in fact have "naked donut runs" during finals. I was asleep when it happened this year though.

collegehopeful78, are you international?

No, I was born and still live in NYC.

OK, cool (10 chars)
