Brown plme/reg

hey @ brown, is an applicant only allowed to apply into one program, as in, can i apply to both plme and regular (in case i get rejected from plme)

Yup, you can get rejected from plme and still get admitted to the college.

wow, thats pretty sweet, thanks...

so would one have to submit 2 app's, or just one (for plme) and the university will place you into the college (assuming you're rejected) or what

Basically, you do the application for Brown university itself and then fill out an extra section for PLME applicants with short responses.

I wouldn't call them short responses... it's two extra full length essays. Which I liked doing. I was able to show a ton more about myself. Now to wait and see if it did any good...

i personally think the essays can make or break the brown application, since everyone's stats seem to be great these days anyway, my sister got in to the plme program when she was a senior (although she didn't go) and she thought the only reason was because of her essays, her main strength

Where did she end up going?

If I (somehow) get into PLME, it'll definitely be because of essays. If I end up getting into Brown (undergrad), that too will be essays. I really hope they work.

ditto* essays = make or break. I have a 1600...but I mean a kid with a 1500 could just as easily beat me.

From people I've talked to in the past, essays are really a big deal. I put my heart and soul into mine.

I hope it worked =)

btw. good luck goldshadow.

we ended up moving from new jersey to california, and my sister felt she wasn't willing to live that far away, so after a long decision, she decided to come over to uc berkeley

wow... ditching plme for berk... -_-

For ED, should you check the box binding you to Brown if you don't get accepted to PLME? Would it look bad if you didn't?

In the ED decisions thread, a lot of people who were deferred/rejected did not check the box.

I don't know why most people would leave it unchecked anyway though. If you're applying ED, it should be because you truly want to go there. In that case, you should also know that getting into PLME is unlikely, and if you're applying to Brown ED because you love Brown, then why wouldn't you want to get the brown undergrad experience?

there are many reasons for not checking that box
-financial reasons
-wanting to apply to other ba/md programs

but im sure the people who applied ED, but didn't check the box, would love to attend Brown undergraduate as their first choice. However, sometimes securing a spot in medical school may take priority.
