That’s a great bunch of schools – don’t get me wrong – but Brown offers something entirely different and unique. Out of all of them, Brown – or rather the freedom of courses via the open curriculum, the atmosphere, and the leraning experience itself – is unbeatable.

Add to that the freedom given to you by PLME (think of the cut throat pre-med classes you can escape, the extra courses and subjects you can explore, and the peace of mind you’ll get from not having to take the MCAT/apply to medical schools if you don’t want to…). Plus, the opportunities (research and personal) are essentially endless.

Brown is a fantastic place for undergrad itself, but with the added benefit of PLME, this should be a straightforward choice

I’ll repeat what I hear every time someone asks “Harvard, Yale, Northwestern HPME, insert other top undergrad or other BS/MD program here, or Brown PLME?”
→ If you want to be a doctor (or even if you’re not 100% sure), you really can’t beat PLME. Compare it to other BS/MD programs, and you see that Brown gives you the most freedom and support. Alpert Medical school is up and coming, and their residency match lists are almost unparalleled.

Compare Brown PLME to other top undergraduate schools, and you see that you get just as good if not a better and more personalized education at Brown. On top of that, you’re guaranteed a spot in medical school! Plenty of (very very amazing) kids go to HPYSM and have a very difficult time getting into medical school… Statistics show that ~15-20% don’t even get in and probably another 30-40% don’t get into a “top caliber” medical school of their choice. At Brown you can live without any of those concerns and instead focus on learning and gaining the skills (personal or academic) that you’ll need to become the best doctor you can be.

For me, when I was trying to decide whether to apply ED to Brown PLME or SCEA to Harvard or Yale, those reasons were a big part of that decision. However, of even more importance to me was how I felt at each of those schools. Certainly, every single one of your choices is very different and emphasizes distinct learning philosophies and qualities in their students; you should pick the place that you feel most at home.

And on top of all of the logistical reasons, I chose Brown because it is such a warm, welcoming, and open place. Atmosphere matters! You’ll be spending 4-8 years at the school you choose, so make sure you pick the place you feel is the best fit for YOU.

–

Anyways, I hope you found this helpful, and I certainly hope I’ll be seeing you next year (or rather, for the next 4-8 :)). Good luck making your decision, and feel absolutely free to PM me if you want any more input… I could say a lot more, but for the sake of brevity and not overflowing this thread, I’ll stop here.
