A total of 32,280 students applied for admission to the University for the Class of 2020, according to data sent to The Herald by Dean of Admission Jim Miller ’73. This is the highest number of applications in the University’s history, Miller wrote in an email to The Herald. The data encompasses applicants from both the early decision and regular decision pools.
What’s interesting is that virtually every selective college in the country is saying the same thing. Common App strikes again!
@klingon97 Yes, I was speaking with a Georgetown adcoms and she said that georgetowns application number would increase 30% if they moved their app onto the common app.
I think they also increased the number of places, however. The acceptance rate is slightly higher than last year’s.
My S is a senior, the first of 6 that we will go through this process with. I’m still trying to decide how I feel about the common app. Record numbers of applicants are being recorded all over the place. I remember the days of paper and pen and white out. Didn’t apply to any school I didn’t really want to attend. Seems with social media comes a culture of wanting to show everyone where you got into regardless of if you really want to go there. I’ll be checking back later looking for a “Waitlisted and Got In” feed in a few month.
Brown announced a few years ago that it was increasing the size of the freshman class by 1% a year. Not sure how long that’s going on for …
