Brown student taking questions!

In the Ratty, there's a whole section for vegetarians that always has vegan entres and several vegan sides. Other sections sometimes have vegan things too (my friend loves the vegan pizza). The Ivy Room is all vegetarian in the evening, including vegan options (wraps, smoothies, etc). Jo's and various other snack places always have lots of vegan snacks including Odwalla bars, juices, etc. During the fall and the spring, there's a market outside the Ratty every Wednesday where local farmers sell their produce, a lot of which is vegan.

Obviously being vegan will be a challenge no matter where you go to school, but Brown gives you a lot of options and is very conscious of various dietary preferences.

ILB, Thanks very much for the quick response to the vegan dining question. Some school have great vegan options, others have virtually none. It's usually difficult to determine which category a school falls into so your response was very helpful. Thanks again.

How do you put money on your ID card for the laundry, copy centers and other places that use the "swipe"?

there are a couple of machines around campus where you can do this. i'm pretty sure there's some in faunce, the bear's lair, the v-dub, and a bunch of other places around campus.

libraries have them too, they're little machines called CVCs or Card Value Centers

I really, really liked Brown when I visited, but honestly, do intermural sports suck there?

what do you mean by suck? (and do you mean intramural?)

Yeah, it's intramural (translation--within the walls [of the university]).

And as for vegan dining options, I know few people could answer this question, but how does Brown compare to Harvard and/or Yale?

I think there are six machines spread across campus where you can add money onto your card.. The ones i remember offhand are in the foyer of the brown bookstore, the CIT building and in the basement of faunce house.. Not sure where the other 3 are..

Thanks for the info about the swipe card. Another question...do you know if there is a bus that goes to the ferries in either New London or Bridgeport? Was wondering if there is a service from campus that gets students to the ferries.

i know amtrak does, it's how one of my friends gets to and from Brown.

Outside vdub, bear's lair, libraries.....this really isn't complicated, or something you should be worried about.

how far is the amtrak or greyhound station from campus? Is it walk-able?

it is...its not to far its right across from the capitol...of course if you have lots of bagage and the like you might consider some other way of getting there

It's about 15mins with reasonable baggage walk, a 4 dollar cab ride, maybe 4.25 and five with the tip.

It's $5. Don't be stingy and not tip!

RIPTA goes to Newport and to the ferries. On really hot days it's free.

Notable/ HIGH QUALITY places to go on Thayer Street:

Nice Slice Pizza - Organic thin-crust wholewheat pizza with huge topping variety (vegan available)
The Creperie - Fresh fruit smoothies, savory/ sweet crepes and wraps
Blue State Coffee
Avon Theatre - Independent film house
Nava - Vintage clothing store
The Frozen Yogurt Shop

Happy Thayering!!

how would you describe the “typical” student at Brown? if you had to list some general adjectives about the study body

Students that got into brown… what were your stats?

^^ if you look at the accepted threads from last year, there’s a ton of them.
