Everyone always says Brown is very laid back, etc… However I still think it does have a high academic reputation as well for a reason, so I wish to ask anyone who knows what the workload is like ate Brown. Say for example how many hours of homework/study time per week? and how much work is it compared to AP classes/IB program in high school? Do you think it is more/less work than an honors program at a state university?

bump.................

It probably depends on your courses. And how much work you choose to do.

difficult... if you want to take "easy" classes you can take them pass/fail, but due note, even courses which are considered "gut" courses around here, requires a fair amount of work and consistency.

I second Rabo...the distinctive thing about Brown it seems is the choice of how much work one does, which seemingly makes workload a very individually variable thing.

Yes it probably does depend a lot on your course selection. For example, Latin alone took me 15+ hours a week first semester. I would say on average a course takes about 5 hours outside of class a week at least, and more for tests or papers or whatever. Expect to be very busy. And dont think of taking 5 courses the first semester.

AP was a joke compared to college, for me at least. Maybe my high school sucks, I dont know. I took AP chem, bio, physics, english, gov, and calc senior year, and hardly broke a sweat. This year Im busting my ass all the time. But, I have learned so much already, it's really worth it.

I dont know if its more or less work than other colleges, but I'm going to guess it is more by some at least. Part of this is the tests can be so damn difficult. The teachers dont want everybody to get A's. And when your peers are all really smart, that means a hard test indeed.

But then again, some of my peers I see with tons of free time. It really depends on what you want for yourself.
