Brown Transfer Applicants Unite

oh yeah. brown's the shiznit guys

hey -- somethings got me worried (like more than usual of course). I've been looking a a lot on the Brown website (like more than usual of course) at classes. A lot of them require written permission or have strict limits of students, etc. You have to audition for intro acting, you have to enter a lottery to get into the first art class, the one you have to take before taking any other................................ first year seminar students have to enter a lottery...WHAT IS THIS?! is this just talk or is it really that strict?

I think most schools have restrictions on the number of students in an art class, particularly introductory ones. A lottery is a somewhat fair way to do it. You should look into whether or not concentrators get preference. I know they do in other departments.

But at Brown? that just seems so ridiculous. I know they do it at OSU...

man, all you guys are making me anxious to know if your accepted or not... worst comes to worse, u could take classes at RISD... but i think u could only take three in the four years at brown
not sure though

Yeah, I am getting anxious now, too...........(note the number of dots - that's how anxious I am).

That's actually the problem. It's that I want to take ceramics classes at RISD but you can't before you take that class.

i can't take the wait anymore.... does anyone know if our decisions be posted online on may 13th? is there any possibility that we will hear sooner?

a watched pot never boils...my strategy for RD=forget about it via some other temproary obsession and it will be here virtually tomorrow

Decisions are not posted online for transfer students... So we'll all have to wait for the mail, which Brown is sending out on Friday the 13th. I'll probably get my letter on the 16th.

13 Days to Go...

Any transfer applicants out there willing to post their stats? I'd like to get some idea of of the "competition" out there.

Here are mine:

Current School: USC
Current GPA: 3.85
SAT: 1360
High School Type: Private
High School GPA: 3.5 :(

Good Luck, Everyone! They have to take some of us at least. It just sucks that we have to wait so long... I heard from NYU like three weeks ago.

Current School: NYU
Current GPA: 3.7
SAT: 1400
High School Type: Public
High School GPA: 3.85

accepted so far: georgetown, uva, wash u

just curious, but what made you guys decide to transfer from your current schools?

Well, USC is a good school. There's nothing really wrong with my life here in SoCal. However, I came to USC to study Journalism and now I'm fairly sure I want to become a Professor of History. So, my initial reason for coming here (to study Journalism) is gone. Also, I don't really like LA that much, and I think I'd enjoy life on the east coast much more. I think Brown is better academically and I love their lack of core requirements. I applied to NYU because I love NYC and I'm very interested in doing a double major in History and Judaic Studies (which NYU has a great department for). I got into NYU for transfer, but they wanted me to pay 4 times what I'm paying to go to USC, and I really can't afford to go.

Question for Other Transfer Applicants...

Did anyone else find the whole lack of online submission for transfer applications really annoying??? My handwriting isn't great, and I think my application probably looked less impressive than it might have if I had been allowed to type it online. In retrospect, I probably should have typed my essay portion, rather than write it by hand. It's too late for that, however...

Currently at UMich 3.93+ GPA
35 on ACT this year (30 when I took it as JR in HS)

HS: Private

Yes, hand submission was annoying, but I typed almost everything and made use of a paper-clips.

And why are there so many of us!!!!! grunt

Am I on the only person who was dumb enough to actually write everything BY HAND?!! Sigh.

No, I wrote most of it by hand. ^_______^
