SO glad i didn't withdraw the finaid app!!! I actually got an email with the head of transfer admissions (i had been conversing with him) reccommending i didn't withdraw it :)

No Letter, but...

I called and they "unfortunately weren't able to offer [me] a spot for admission." Sigh. I blame the sloppiness of my handwritten application, and a friend who criticized my essay too much and made me write a new one a day before I mailed it. Woe is me.

There's always next year...

Got my letter (no surprises about this one - it's HUGE! and obnoxious, haha)! W00t w00t. Very nice finaid package as well! This is wonderful. :)

Red, there's a box on the back of the commitment card you can check off if you want to be considered for the fall semester. There's space provided for a reason as well. Good luck!

Do you really need a lot of EC's for transferring to Brown?
If you fake high school EC's, will they figure out?

uh, yes?

because most HS EC's are on your HS transcript?

Seriously, it's not worth it to lie. If you have to/want to fabricate EC's, then you're probably not Brown material.

You don't need to have 12 million EC's, in any case. Just a few things through which you have demonstrated real passion and dedication. Above all, Brown considers your academic record (HS and College GPA) and PERSONALITY/CHARACTER QUALITIES (which are conveyed through your personal statement and recs). CHARACTER. So don't lie! Adcoms can discern true passion from listless (and fake!) involvements.

Not that I'm assuming you even want to lie. I'm just saying.

Okay, now, moving on, I can maybe offer some personal insight?

In HS, I had a few leadership roles in stuff I was really into (student gov, newspaper, swimming, community service). In college, I built upon a lot of my HS involvements (lots of writing ECs, water polo, campus activities board, tried to start a magazine, did lots of community service), demonstrating that I actually cared about them. Sure, I had a lot, but it wasn't the sheer amount of them that did anything. It was quality EC's say somethign ABOUT YOU. I don't think my ECs made much of an impact beyond making it clear that 1) I had interests that I was not only passionate about but also rather good at 2) I would actively contribute to the community 3) I wasn't faking anything. Which, granted, is a pretty positive impact, yes. However, what got me in, I think, was my strong academic record and my lively personality. Seriously. It's amazing how far creativity will get you at Brown!

Empty ECs are exactly that: empty. Meaning, they will get you nowhere alone. However, if you're worried about having none or few, don't sweat it. Just get involved IN COLLEGE with stuff you truly love. Concentrate above all on DOING VERY WELL ACADEMICALLY, and demonstrate that you will CONTRIBUTE POSITIVELY TO THE COLLEGE COMMUNITY.

Aaaaaand sorry about the typos. I can't edit the post any longer, apparently. XD

cool...you could and they may not figure it out, but if they do, you're screwed. Regardless, it's just sick and wrong....

Hi everyone,
I'm new and I was wandering if some of you could help me out!?! I was accepted as a transfer student at Georgetown, Barnard, and Brown (total shock!) I'm having the most trouble deciding between Brown and Barnard and I want to make sure I give Georgetown enough of a consideration. I love city and rural, I want a diverse student population (ethnically, geographically, socioeconomically, and religiously), and great social options. I want a place where I can be spontaneous. Student-prof interaction if possible would be great too. I would love any input...I applied to 12 colleges the first time around and 4 this time (I decided not to go to NYU) and I need some guidance! Thanks!:)

yeah guys should i go to vassar or brown? obviously i'm in love with brown but vassar seems really great too. a huge sense of community and a really easy transition as a transfer...i'm not quite sure what to do!!

hey Clay, I would visit both again if I were you...

but i also think you might regret it for the rest of your life if you didnt go to Brown.

best of luck.

I wouldn't really consider it a debate for you. You've been the most passionate about getting into Brown on these boards and you seem to be obsessed with the school - I would go to Brown if I were you. And I'm going to Brown too, so it's just a cool school.

any feedback on Brown vs. UPenn would be fantastic....i'm agonizing over it!

some more info on me: i'll be a sophomore transfer and i want to major in economics with as much math as possible, and also a solid amount of international relations/poltical science.

thanks all!

you should post this in the Transfer students section. I can't help you because I don't know that much about Penn.

I'd imagine they're both really different. Have you visited? I'm guessing Penn has a better econ department.

red -- RIGHT YOU ARE

I'M SO GLAD I CHOSE BROWN!!!
