Brown University

Hello everyone! I am a current Junior planning out my college list. I wanted to apply to Brown University but wasn’t sure if I should (my reasoning is stated down below). I will be studying political science & I will be pre-law (so the cost of the school will be important). If anyone could give me any advice or their thoughts that would be great!

Pros of applying to brown:
-Great location
-Great campus
-I really like the “vibe” of the school and students
-I like the open curriculum (I would want to concentrate on studying poli sci and education)
-Ivy League (however the prestige isn’t why I want to apply)

Cons:
-Cost: I am roughly upper middle class (My mom is a single parent and makes around 200k, I have two younger siblings and live in a very expensive area). I fear it would cost too much to attend Brown if accepted, especially since I want to go to law school
-Acceptance rate: since the acceptance rate is so slow is it even worth it apply? I have pretty good stats but still.

It’s worth a shot if you have stats and extracurriculars in-range, and if you can afford the application fee. I’m currently a First-Year at Brown (though pre-med, not law) so feel free to pm me any questions!

Always worth applying assuming you have financial room for some app fees, and it sounds like you do.

D3 applied and assumed she wouldn’t get in for the reasons you listed and she did. Imagine if she hadn’t applied for the reasons you listed, or others.

Also, I really agree with your Pros list. People really don’t understand how nice Providence is and in particular how nice College Hill is. I love it there and would move if I could get my family off of the West Coast.
