brown

What makes brown special? I’m considering colleges and favoring Yale because I have family in the area that would make it cheaper, but what sets brown apart?

after receiving acceptances i ultimately decided between brown and yale. in my impressions from ADOCH and bulldog days, both schools had very similar institutional cultures which was a big factor for me. both struck me as romantic, artsy, and a little quirkier than the other ivies. ultimately, i chose brown because the open curriculum seemed more alluring than the many distribution requirements at yale. i liked the idea of having complete intellectual autonomy and designing my own course of study.

I forgot to mention this, but I'm considering the laws schools in particular. Would you happen to know anything about Brown's law school.

google.com

Brown doesn't have a law school.

yisroel -

You don't go directly to Law School - you need to have an undergraduate degree first. Going to an undergrad school with a law school will not ultimately provide you any help when it comes to being admitted to law school, so don't worry about it...

I thought that being in the college for undergrad would help get you into the law school. Would you recommend an easier, but reputable school with good recs and then applying in?

No -- some law schools even prefer to take applicants from different schools rather than their own undergrad programs. It really depends.

Anyway, Brown doesn't have a law school, but Brown undergrads do very well for placement at top law schools around the country.

Yisroel, with that understanding of higher education, maybe you shouldn't be bothering to apply to Yale or Brown.

iwastypo -

I was tempted to say something like that, but then I stepped back and thought a little and realized that there was a time that I knew just as little, so I think we should be fair.

yisroel - ILoveBrown is completely right. Being at the Undergrad school will not (at this level, at least) help you, so don't worry about it. Brown has one of THE BEST records for law school admission.

so just go to a different grad. Sounds like what I was thinking of doing any way. Do they have records of what schools they have a record of accepting from. I have a specific state college that I'm thinking of, it's public, but it matches Berkley (U of Virginia).
