This is a short question. Bruin day is coming up this saturday and I was planning on going but I did not know that we had to RSVP. I know cal day doesn't require it so I assumed the same for Bruin Day. I want to know if I can still attend the events and workshops if I do go because I have been looking forward to it and was not aware that RSVP was required until now and it has just closed. So yeah, what will happen if I do show up anyways?

probably won’t be that big of a deal. When i went to orientation, the only advantage i got for paying for it was talking to the counselors really, and getting help registering for my classes (although i could have got both for free from other students/on my own)

just show up there and follow the crowd. you’ll probably be fine.

Shouldn’t orientation days keep you covered in terms of learning how to register for classes? Also, when do we start registering for classes for this fall?

Yes, the counselors at Orientation will give you all of the info you need to know about registering for classes. They also work with you on explaining your DPR (Degree Progress Report) and navigating all of that, so it’s highly recommended that you attend. You’ll register for classes for this fall during Orientation (I think it’s the third day, but I could be wrong), which is also another reason you should definitely attend. Plus, it’s a great way to meet new people before starting school, and you’ll be a lot more familiar with campus, etc.

You’ll be fine. The real purposes of the RSVP are: (1) get a count on who will be attending; and (2) get an idea how many will be at individual presentations.

RSVP’ing helps you plan your schedule. But honestly, you can do that yourself.

There will be new students who RSVP’d who end up not being able to make it, and new students, like you, who didn’t think they had to and just show up.

A lot of students come with their parents, and they (the parents) haven’t RSVP’d, but they still go with the student on the tours and to the various presentations and the department open houses (most have “drop in” times – where you just show up between those times, and you can talk to other students in the department and some of the professors on hand).

It is very, very casual, and a lot of fun. Don’t worry about not RSVP’ing. Believe me, you will NOT be the only one! You should, though, bring a copy of your admissions offer and an ID, since Bruin Day is really for admitted students taking the last look around before deciding, as opposed to students not admitted, but considering (eventually) going to UCLA.

^so are the students talking to each other a lot/ outgoing or do people tend to stick to themselves/with families @ bruin day?

^ a little bit a both, but remember, this is the first year we are having just one day for everyone…so there’s probably going to be less time talking.

when you go to orientation however, you’ll meet tons of students.

Since we register for classes on orientation day, is it better to pick the earliest date in order to register for the most popular classes (like premed prereqs) before they fill up? (or is this not even how it works?)

Everyone is aware that Bruin Day and Orientation are two different things, right?

For some high demand courses (i.e. Chem 20A, and others, I assume), they’ll reserve a certain number of spots for students from each Orientation session, so it doesn’t matter that much what session you end up in.

So how many people do you guys think will be there for Bruin Day? Lol, parking is going to a super hassle…

I’ve heard estimates from 10,000 - 13,000 people (admits and their families) are going to be on campus.

There’s a detailed article about Bruin Day in today’s Daily Bruin.
